Publisher's Summary

It was the ideal marriage of convenience...until they met.

Cassandra DeWitt has seen her husband only once - on their wedding day two years earlier - and this arrangement suits her perfectly. She has no interest in the rude, badly behaved man she married only to secure her inheritance. She certainly has no interest in his ban on her going to London. Why, he’ll never even know she is there.

Until he shows up in London too, and Cassandra finds herself sharing a house with the most infuriating man in England.

Joshua DeWitt has his life exactly how he wants it. He has no need of a wife disrupting everything, especially a wife intent on reforming his behavior. He certainly has no need of a wife who is intolerably amiable, insufferably reasonable...and irresistibly kissable.

As the unlikely couple team up to battle a malicious lawsuit and launch Cassandra’s wayward sister, passion flares between them. Soon the day must come for them to part...but what if one of them wants their marriage to become real?

Hilarious, heartrending, and hot, this standalone Regency romance tells the story of a marriage of convenience between opposites.

Loved this book. Don’t miss the fun!

This book is funny, sad at times, and very good. There are numerous sexual scenes but are between a man and wife. This book is not erotica by my standards and I really do not like erotica, cheating, and excessive foul language. I loved the characters of the book and assumed it was a series. I’m sad now because I was all ready for to buy the next book and there isn’t one. I must go pout now. Don’t miss this one! Kate Reading is a great narrator.

A must read for romance readers- rare find

The banter between the two main characters was so much fun. Best compliment I can give is that I will miss these characters, so rare to find despite all the books I go through. The story was plausible, another facet I need from a book. The evolution of the relationship and the changes they wrought in each other came naturally too, and was beautifully done. So sad when it was over.

A fun and wicked story

Casandra had been jilted by her fiancé. Two weeks before their wedding, he eloped with another young lady. Casandra was heartbroken. Her father was worried about his estate going to someone else if he died unless Casandra was married, so he arranged a marriage for her with Joshua. Joshua had been the heir to an earldom until it was revealed that his father was not legally married to Joshua's mother. Joshua was stripped of his title and thrown out by his hateful father. Joshua worked very hard and became rich beyond imagination. He married young and they had a child, but both wife and child died Joshua grieved. He agreed to marry Casandra but said the marriage was in name only. Cassandra and Joshua saw each other only once - their wedding day and night. Two years later they meet again. Their interaction is hilarious. The dialog is quick and witty. These two characters are so lovable. They fight their way to what I hoped would be a HEA. The writer is very good. She told an interesting, funny and sexy story. Great job! Kate Reading's narration is perfect. She makes the story sparkle and come to life. An amazing treat.

What a fun read with great narration..

This was such a great love story, and so very funny. Joshua was hysterical through the whole book and Cassandra hated him and was beginning to love him at the same time. Even though I thought it was a little long I didn’t skim anything, except the sex scenes. There were too many of those, but the rest of the book made it worth having to skim all the sex. There was a lot of sadness in this book but worse than the sadness was Cassandra’s 19-year-old alcoholic sister. Jeez, you couldn’t help but hate her, and she never got any better. Lucy was a good hateable character. So, lots of sexual tension and sex but no swearing. As to the narration: Kate Reading did an excellent job on the voices and the emotions when she reads.

TOTALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK

I had never read this author before so I was hesitant... I will look for her books from now on. I loved the characters, the relationship between them and everything in between. The narrator was excellent (something I have a hard time finding lately) and did a fabulous job on the story! Well done! Please do more series like this... I'm desperate for good books with good narrators. lol

What we want is not always what we need

He is a tortured soul, she is as warm as she can trust herself to be. Romance stories have many similar basics and this book has them all; history of pain or loss, parental influence, societal pressure, sexual desire/tension. With that said, this story is well narrated and written with the consideration of the attitudes of the time. Still, plenty of passion, love and a happy ending - mixed in with the trials to get there.

What a lovely book!

I loved the characters and couldn’t stop listening. I’m hoping for sequels about the younger sisters. Kate Reading was wonderful, as always. I listen to a lot of historical romances, rolling my eyes about half the time. So nice to discover an intelligent and well written romance.

Wonderful

Mia Vinci has written a wonderful romance that’s up there with some of my favourite stories by the likes of Kleypas and Balogh. It’s a keeper and I know I’ll be re-reading it. I’ve jumped straight to amazon to buy her next book. Cassandra and Joshua are both endearing likeable characters and their teasing banter is laugh out loud funny. That said the story has it’s poignant moments, Joshua’s visit to the orphanage had me in tears. I’d also like to compliment Kate Reading for her excellent narration. There was none of that irritating, overly arch tone that can sometimes creep into historical romance narration.

The hero needs to grow up.

Marrying at nineteen to an older women, ensured he could continue to be a teenager for the rest of his life. He is full of self-pity, blaming the world for his suffering, the only person in the world to have suffered. He made money for himself and others, so could continue to behave like a spoilt teenager for the rest of his life. He can play cruel games, throw temper tantrums, and no-one tries to stop him. She is a total doormat, trained to be a martyr. She humiliates herself and alllow others to humiliate her, all in the name of protecting and keeping her family together. She decides she wants a child, so despite her previous bedding by her husband, she is willing to subject herself to what ever he wishes to subject her to suffer. It is a pity as there are some very good characters in the story, but if he was meant to be humourous, I found him spoilt teenager.
