Fun listen; not as much laughter as the first

Overall, I thought this was a fun listen. Both this book and the first by Vincy were quite good: well developed characters, a bit of a sassy female lead, and redemption.

Just a head's up for anyone (like me) who chose this book after loving the first one. The first in the series made me laugh out loud. The banter between those characters left me in stitches. This book is far more serious than the first. There's far less teasing and a good deal more angst.

First time listener.

At first it was hard for me to listen to someone read a story to me because I have always read to myself. I thought the person's voice, who was reading out loud; didn't really mesh together with the storyline but I was dead wrong after the first two sentences. she brought the story and characters alive! Making me want to listen to the next chapter and another afterwards. I will definitely recommend this story and reader to my family and friends!!! Now that am done with this book, am off to start another adventure else where; and hopefully this reader will be there to help me bring that new story to life.

Nice story and narration..

Another cute story but I have to agree with several other reviewers, it was way too long. I can appreciate authors doing their best to write as many words as publishers want but it can cost you a lot of bored readers because of repetitiveness or too much whining or the man being a jerk for too long. BUT that’s just my opinion.

Overall, even though this could have been shorter, it was a decent story. I liked Thea because she was so lively and positive. While Rafe was gruff and trying not to like her. I liked Arabella, too. She was always so droll. As far as Ventnor and his son Percy went, they got exactly what they deserved.

It was a fun fake marriage, with both of then living a lie.

There was explicit sex and no swearing.

As to the narration: Kate Reading is a wonderful narrator. I love a female narrator that makes a man sound like a man.

oh my! what a great story and performance! In one of the groups I am in on Facebook, someone mentioned reading this series and really liking it, so I decided to check it out. I am soooo happy I did! I thoroughly enjoyed this! It was funny, sweet, and just a touch on the gothic side. I can not wait to get to the next one!

Humor and Romance

I loved this story! A smart, witty, and charming heroine, coupled with an intelligent, gruff, and good-hearted protagonist made for an entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable tale. Narration by Kate Reading is always a plus, which made this enjoyable tale an excellent listen!

Enchanting!

What a fun story. These two are perfect for each other! I love the continuation of Longhope residence and their stories and can't wait for Mia Vincy to release her latest installment!

Extremely Diverting!

This was a spectacular listen! Mia Vincy is definitely a step above the rest with her writing. The dialogue and back-and-forth banter were some of the best I've read/heard in historical romance. Excellent character development. Thea was a thoroughly believable and lovable h.

Thanks to the superb narration by Kate Reading I laughed out loud multiple times! The story was so well-written and enthralling that I couldn't stop listening! After a very late night listening and an unfortunate early alarm, I had to prolong the conclusion which whetted my appetite further!

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 (it would have been a 6 or 7 if there were an option!) is because of the gratuitous sex scene. I don't need graphic details and find it detracts from a story. I have a vivid enough imagination, I really do not need full descriptions. Even most movies do not give that much detail. Mia Vincy, you don't need a crutch like that - you are a great writer without it. Please consider excluding it in your future historical romance novels.

Well-written, Fun, Superb Narration

I’ve been listening to so many fun Regency romances that I was expecting more of the same: a 4 to 4 1/2-star book, certainly good enough. What I got from Mia Vincy, though, was a solid 5 stars! How can a book be so sexy with just the exchange of kisses? And the dialogue — inner and between characters — is so realistic thanks not only to great writing and humor but to a fabulous actress doing voiceover and male and female protagonists. The icing on the cake for me: Ms. Reading appears to know (1) the difference between “apprise” and “appraise,” and (2) the proper pronunciation of “mischievous.” Yayyyyy.
