The story:

On the ice world of Simia Orichalcae a spate of mysterious disappearances is causing unrest amongst the mine workers, and, as senior officer of the Astra Militarum, Commissar Ciaphas Cain is nominated to investigate. Unbeknownst to him, the planet is right in the path of a major ork incursion, and, as the savage greenskins attack, a malevolent evil begins to stir deep in the ice caves.

another great book

it's amazing, great narration and a great storyline it is a definite read if you're a 40k fan

Fan-Fave!

I'm more of an Astartes fan but I surprisingly love this audiobook. My favorite character is Jurgen or Logash. Great voice acting... It really set the scene, and made me feel like I was in an ancient Necron ice-tomb, infested with space Orks. Oh and did I mention giant, clawed creatures from an unknown Necron tomb-world?

I think this story has lots of great elements (grimness, humor, lore, human perspective, xenos, Waaagh, etc.). I wish the great Administratum went into more details on the rich history of the Necrons and Necrontier. I believe the Necrons are perhaps the main factor the galaxy is the way it is in 40k. not as good as the first

title sums it up. feels like the first book if it was ordered off of wish.

Short and familiar

This was almost identical to the previous book, which is both good and bad. Good because I really enjoyed the last book. It's funny, has good characters, and has exciting and vivid action sequences. Bad because, it really is the same thing again. just a different planet with different tunnels and different enemies. also it felt much shorter. I do recommend it if you liked the previous story, but I'll be disappointed if the next one follows the same form.

I LOVE CIAPHAS CAIN

Oh man I cannot get enough of Sandy Mitchell's Ciaphas Cain, after finishing all the books on audible within a week I went out and bought physical copies of the whole series. These books are hilarious, action packed, and, honestly, the only books I've ever read or listened to that made me legitimately laugh out loud. I had to stop listening to them at night because I would wake up my girlfriend by laughing too hard.

To any non 40k fan out there, give these a try as your intro to the series, they're hilarious and fun even if you know nothing about the universe.
