Grim and dark, just the way I like it!
The story follows many characters, and juggling them all can be a bit confusing at times, but a fine read/listen for any fan of the Imperial Guard!

The planet broke before the Guard did!
An excellent story. It expertly transitions you from view point to view point of a drawn out war. Even those not familiar with the Warhammer 40k Universe could follow the story even if some of the signicance would be lost to them.

Loved the focus on the human characters!
