Story
"The Eyes Have It" is a humorous, early short story by Philip K. Dick that first appeared in Science Fiction Stories in 1953. In it, a bus-riding reader of a discarded melodrama with an overactive imagination is persuaded by the hackneyed prose that the world has been taken over by aliens. Thus, when "eyes slowly roved around the room", the reader imagines disembodied eyeballs traveling of their own free will. A rare example of satire from the Dick canon.

Story
First published in sci-fi magazines of the 1950s, these early stories from Philip K. Dick showcase the budding author’s uncanny ability to forge strange new paths into alternate realities. Already in command of the themes and techniques he would later employ in his novels, Dick here envisions alien infiltrations, far-off worlds at war, nightmarish totalitarian societies, and uncanny depths lying just beneath seemingly commonplace realities. Fantastical, sinister, paranoid, and darkly amusing, these are seminal works in Dick’s justly celebrated career.

My boss’s daughter is off limits. For now. Wanting her wasn’t in the cards. Tell that to the need pumping through my veins. When we’re thrown together at work, resisting temptation goes out the window. So does my shot at the job I’ve had my eye on for years. Her father chooses her to take the role instead of me. Talk about unqualified. She’s everything I want in bed and everything I don’t want at the office. And she gets to call all the shots. I’m honestly not sure how much I can put up with. Especially because I don’t have to. But she needs me. The coworker in me wants to ...

Story
Aliens have invaded the Earth! Horrible one-celled creatures disguised as normal human beings! Well, at least that is what it seems to the author. Yes, "The Eyes Have It" is a whimsical story, making gentle fun of certain writing styles, but only a top-flight science-fictionist like Philip Dick , we thought, could have written this story, in just this way.

Story
This was a fun story to read! A sci-fi quickie from the master, Philip K. Dick, about a man who takes the written word FAR too literally to hilarious ends and is convinced there's an alien invasion underway! Aliens! This is a funny, funny satirical story -- sort of a rarity in the often serious realm of sci-fi. The Eyes Have It was published in Science Fiction Stories 1953 and is in the public domain.

Story
"The Eyes Have It" is a terrific work by Philip K. Dick. It is a mind bending story of the narrator's paranoia of a alien invasion of earth, due to his misinterpetation of word usage in a book. It also shows us that a persons reality is largely based off of ones beleif of what is true. I hope you each enjoy this story as much as I have.P.S. - A huge shoutout to the De Freitas for the message.

Story
Scratch beneath the surface of a coffee bean, a red pepper flake, a poppy seed, a mold spore, a foxglove leaf, a magic-mushroom cap, a marijuana bud, or an apple seed, and we find a bevy of strange chemicals. We use these to greet our days (caffeine), titillate our tongues (capsaicin), recover from surgery (opioids), cure infections (penicillin), mend our hearts (digoxin), bend our minds (psilocybin), calm our nerves (CBD), and even kill our enemies (cyanide). But why do plants and fungi produce such chemicals? And how did we come to use and abuse some of them?

Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the pure light of Valinor. Included on the recording are several shorter works. The Ainulindalë is a myth of the Creation and in the Valaquenta the nature and powers of each of the gods is described. The Akallabêth recounts the downfall of the great island kingdom of Númenor at the end of the Second Age, and Of the Rings of Power tells of the great events at the end of the Third Age.

Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone.
