This brand-new unabridged audiobook of The Fellowship of the Ring, the first part of J. R. R. Tolkien’s epic adventure The Lord of the Rings, is read by the BAFTA Award-winning actor, director, and author Andy Serkis.

In a sleepy village in the Shire, a young hobbit is entrusted with an immense task. He must make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ruling Ring of Power - the only thing that prevents the Dark Lord Sauron’s evil dominion. Thus begins J. R. R. Tolkien’s classic tale of adventure, which continues in The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

I have loved the LOTR for years and years. I bought the version done by (I think) Rob Inglis ….which was very highly rated. But I absolutely HATED it. I couldn’t get by the reader’s affectations and horrible singing voice that seemed to come up way too frequently.

This version is absolutely perfect. He hasn’t come to a song yet, but he is such a good reader that I can even stand it if his voice is bad (though I doubt it will be). His characters are perfect. If you are looking for a version, make sure you listen to samples of both, but I cannot sing the praises of Andy Serkis too much. Thanks to Audible for getting this version. Finally.

Thank you thank you thank you!

Even though you may have read and listened to these books already there is something a great narration adds to the overall effect of the telling. Andy Serkis's portrayal of each character is amazing it really gives these books new life. I have read them as a preteen and enjoyed them, I liked the audibooks as a teen, but as soon as I heard Andy's sample I pre-ordered them and couldn't wait. I was not disappointed. I've flown through this reading better than any before and enjoyed every second. I've picked up so much more that I never realized I'd missed all these years. By far the best narration so far it was a very enjoyable listen.

Brings a new aspect on an old story

Andy Serkis is dead on imitating the voices of the actors in the movies. That’s fine But the singing is awful. I read these passages in the books. I would MUCH prefer that he read them as well. The singing was so cringe worthy I had to fast forward through those sections. That’s a shame because those definitely add to the story. His singing truly spoiled my enjoyment of these books I hold near and dear.

The singing ruins this narration!

Andy Serkis brings the story to life better than anyone could in my honest opinion.

Perfection

Obviously an amazing book by Tolkien and read well by Andy Circus, but I cannot stand when he sings, I have to skip ahead every time. Also i think he could’ve done a much better job with marry, and tom bombadils voice.

Love Andy Circus in this, until he sings

I found myself adjusting the volume a lot. Reading volume is inconsistent. I would turn up the volume to hear low talking or whispering, only to be startled when he yelled. Worth a listen though, other than that it’s brilliant.

I love Andy Serkis but

Only Andy Serkis could narrate JRR Tolkien at the exquisite level. I must listen for all Tolkien fans.

Andy S was such a good choice to have narrate this series. His voice is so good, soothing, and captivating. I really feel the emotions of the characters when he talks as them, and I felt fully engaged all the way through. Highly recommend this version.

Andy Serkis absolutely nails it
