Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Story
Living with mental illness is hard, but it’s especially difficult when dealing with more than one condition at the same time. Many books about coping with mental illness focus on one disorder, such as anxiety, panic attacks, or depression. Because Dave Mowry didn’t see any that dealt with his situation of living with multiple disorders simultaneously, he decided to write about it himself. OMG That’s Me! is sometimes funny, often poignant, but always deeply honest, open, and personal.

Publisher's Summary
When Going Through Hell...Don’t Stop!: A Survivor's Guide to Overcoming Anxiety and Clinical Depression is the audiobook version of the print book that was published in 2000. This compelling memoir tells the dramatic story of author Douglas Bloch’s battle with, and ultimate recovery from, a life-threatening depressive illness.
After a series of personal losses and setbacks, Douglas plummeted into a major depressive episode. For the next 10 months, he struggled to stay alive in the face of overwhelming despair as unbearable anxiety attacks alternated with dark, suicidal depressions.
Although the managed care mental health system failed to provide him with effective treatment, Douglas devised his “daily survival plan for living in hell" - a holistic recovery program consisting of physical, mental, and emotional self-care that kept him afloat until he was ultimately healed.

Great Book, Great Listen!
I found this life-affirming memoir by Douglas Bloch when I was indeed ”going through hell.” More than just a memoir, the book provides sound advice and encouragement for anyone who finds themself struggling with depression or anxiety.
As the listener discovers through Douglas’s honest and moving account of his own struggles with depression, there is hope and relief if we can keep going through the darkness to the dawn. The narrator has a very appealing reading voice that draws you into the author’s inspirational story. I'm very glad I found this gem of a book.

Story
Mental illness loves to tell lies. One of those lies is that you really should be able to manage what you're struggling with. Pastor and psychotherapist Ryan Casey Waller says no. Mental health issues are not a symptom of a spiritual failing or insufficient faith; rather, suffering is the very thing our Savior seeks to heal as he leads us toward restoration. And yet, as Waller has experienced personally, the battle can be lonely and discouraging. But it doesn't have to be.
