Cardboard Men

Reasonably entertaining, but the male characters are sooo one dimensional and cliche. Molly Harper it ain’t. But Ronconi makes it bearable.

Not the best - somewhat a disappointment

I really loved the first book, so I was SO excited to give this one a listen. Without any spoilers or going into detail, the story is soooo repetitive, the whole book is based on just 1 single and solitary event, it branches out ever-so-slightly, but always comes back to this 1 single event, which is fine, but it gets boring so quickly, nothing else is really added to it - there's no "zest" so to say, there's no romance to balance out the constant "running-around-solving-this-crime" the WHOLE THING is "running-around-solving-this-crime" - the book is very light-hearted but there's no extra comedy to switch it up and take away from that just SOMBER and "crime-solving" theme.

There was so much going on in the first book, there was a "main event" basically, but it wasn't continuously focused upon, there were other stories, other characters coming in and out. Very little romance, but enough to kinda get a breather, which was so great. I feel like this one just dragged on and on and on. The main character (Holly) really irritated me in this book because she's just agitating - she literally gets sucked into this "crime solving" and doesn't leave room for anything else and she's just SO BLINDLY CONSUMED, she's neglectful honestly and there's so much that could have been done with her personal life - SO MUCH MORE COULD'VE BEEN ADDED!!

It was so hard to finish this book - it's only 6 hours or so which I can usually knock out in a day, but this took me about a week to complete.

If love triangles don’t make you cringe, this is light and fun

This reminds me of Molly Harper, which I usually enjoy. A love triangle was hinted at in the first book but I was not sure the series was going to go there. It sure did, this book is mostly about that love triangle. I stopped with and hour and a half to go, I really, really hate love triangles. If you don’t, this is a light read wonderfully performed by Ronconi (as always!).

Meh.. Just an okay story. Good Narration.

This story was Meh.. Could have been better. It kind of got repetitive and boring. Holly is actually kind of boring. There are too many constant inner thoughts going on. I guess that is due to it being written in the first person so you get all that blah blah blah filler nonsense.

She ends up in a murder investigation, why? How does this make sense? She works at a bakery. Now if she was a journalist or PI or anything else I can believe she would get involved so that part of the characters story I just don't get.

I also don't get her relationship with Adam...... She spends more time with Nick and if the author is going to break her and Adam up later and her end up with Nick (I can see that coming) then it's a stupid idea. She should have just got her and Nick together from the beginning. The attraction between her and Nick is way more believable than her and Adam. Just sayin.

She is boring witch. Not very witchy at all. Maybe I will read the next book and it will get better?? I am not sure yet.

As for the narration, its good. I like it. The narrator does a good job on the male voices and has a nice reading voice.
