Story
It’s been a year since the events in Niagara Falls. Things have generally gotten better in the wasteland and civilization is starting to take hold along the rivers. No one knows where the Librarian is, or if he’s alive, but there’s a man and a mastiff running passengers from Hannibal to Cairo that might have an idea as to what really happened. Life is starting to return to normal along the river if you don’t count the pirates and the sea monsters. But all of that is about to change and the end of the world may never be the same again.

It’s the end of the world as you've never known it. Join the Librarian as he does his best to make the post-apocalyptic world a better place by protecting the weak, fighting injustice, squaring off against a group of former renaissance fair workers who have established a kingdom in the Rocky Mountains, and so on. Can one man make a difference in the face of such murderous cannibals and super smart bears? Probably not.

Publisher's Summary
In the middle of the Gulf of Mexico, on a chain of manmade islands, Steve Bennett finds himself thrust into a world he doesn't understand.
An unexpected inheritance places him among the world's wealthiest people. His best friend, Paul, is more than happy to stand by him, as Steve works through his newfound affluence, right until the pair stumbles upon a secret that could change the world forever.
Their discovery puts the two friends in the sights of conspirators and killers, who will stop at nothing to see their plans fulfilled. Steve and Paul must evade the killers, escape the islands and save the world. Of course, they have no training, no allies, and no idea what they're doing. They're not really in the best shape. And, Paul's really not the brightest guy.
The action unfolds across the chain of luxury islands with boat chases, car chases, blazing guns, beautiful women, charging rhinos, castles (okay, it's just one castle), daring escapes, dirty limericks, deadly villains, and more.

So much fun. It's a crazy madcap adventure full of twists and turns. The main characters are fun and likeable and the evil characters are delightfully evil. Phil Thron is an amazing narrator and it's a wonderful book to listen to.

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review." The story is full of action and humor. The characters are well balanced and the author develops a very good story line with a few unexpected twists. This if the first book I have listened to narrated by Phil Thron and he does an excellent job in becoming the different characters.

Loved it.
I'm a fan of Benjamin Wallace's work and absolutely loved Tortugas Rising. It is a wild fast paced nonstop adventure with more than a touch of humor. The story starts with Steve Bennett, a man who is suddenly rich from an inheritance he never expected, and his best friend heading off to see a man-made island he is now the own of. What is supposed to be a relaxing holiday turns out to be anything but. No spoilers, but I will say starting out I would never have guessed where the story was going to lead me. This story would make an excellent movie. And I have to give Benjamin major props, this is the first book I've read read/listened to that dropped a Remo Williams reference!! The book is narrated by the talented Phil Thron and he does a fantastic job. This is the 3rd or 4th time I've listened to his work and he never disappoints. Hope to see/hear a lot more of him in the future. I received a copy of this audio title for free in exchange for an honest review.

Non-stop action and adventure
Overall, not a bad book. From start to finish it is full of action, adventure and some interesting characters. Paul cracks me up with his constant flirting and always joking. But, when it's time to get serious he sure shows his stuff! The story was not what I was expecting but it kept my interest. The narration was well done. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

Damn it, it's just so shiny.
A deliciously funny story set, mostly, on a group of man made islands, each of which promises to be the ultimate, exclusive domain of some of the most rich and famous. The unlikely heroes are two close friends, one of whom had unexpectedly, and reluctantly, inherited millions from a father he'd never met, the other the man determined to spend it for him. Closer to each other than brothers, the dialogue between them is fast and often funny, and this attitude extends to action, also. An opening chapter sets the scene for excitements and violence to come amidst the lush vegetation of the designer islands but is really unecessary, especially as it is later never explained. What follows after is far more relevant: the introduction of the main players, human and location, before the adventure itself begins. It is a fast and colourful comedic read. Narration by Phil Thron compliments this all perfectly, individuals seperately voiced, reading speed geared to the action pacing and a warm presentation which adds to the smiles of the comedic banter. I have only recently discovered author Benjamin Wallace so was delighted when, at my request, the rights holder of Tortuga Rising freely gifted me a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you. I truly loved this fast, funny story. More, please.
