My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

They were the Savages. Raiders from our distant past. Elites who left Earth to create tailor-made utopias aboard the massive lighthuggers that crawled through the darkness between the stars. But the people they left behind on a dying planet didn't perish in the dystopian nightmare the Savages had themselves created: they thrived, discovering faster-than-light technology and using it to colonize the galaxy ahead of the Savages, forming fantastic new civilizations that surpassed the wildest dreams of Old Earth.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Story
From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Story
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

HUMANS ARE ALWAY NEGOTIATING,

Publisher's summary
The future isn’t what they expected.
A company of Army Rangers is sent on an interstellar colony ship to secure a foothold on a dangerous, alien planet through violence of action. Leaving behind a warring Earth flung headfirst into a conflict of mutual assured destruction, the Rangers and the accompanying crew of first colonists are guided on a 40-year journey by an unprecedented artificial intelligence.
But when they emerge from the frigid embrace of cryosleep, they awake to a nightmare, finding themselves greeted by the same ruthless enemy that brought about the ruin of Earth. Alone on a dangerous, alien planet and with no hope of rescue or relief, the military colonists are forced to finish the war they thought they’d left behind. And in an unknown galaxy, friends and enemies alike prove to be much more than they seem.
Wayward Galaxy is an explosive military science-fiction adventure featuring defective AIs, valorous soldiers, a brilliant scientist, and gritty combat written by Jason Anspach (Associated Press best seller and cocreator of Galaxy’s Edge) and J.N. Chaney (USA Today best seller and author of the Renegade series).

A breath of fresh air
An exciting forray into a distant future with interesting characters and some really fun AIs. This was exactly the type of book I was looking for. Chaney and Anspach are great together, their voices made even more incredible by RC Bray's. I hope there are sequels to this, because this is a universe I want to explore even more.

Insanely good
I just want to say that I really liked this. The characters, the world, the story. It's everything I look for in military scifi. The narration was stellar, too. Gonna keep my eye on these guys in the future.

How long before the next book?
I love the story and R. C. Bray's narration is spot on! The premise has a few unexpected twists and turns for space opera, which I liked. The narration had a lot of variety which really helps to keep the many characters separated. Over all, I repeat, how long before the next book?

add Brody to the list of best all time characters with Skippy. I loved the book and narration. I'm a big Galaxies Edge fan too. Wayward Galaxy was right there for entertainment value and I wish the next 3 or 4 were already out. I demand more from all three series.

Ugh. Just...ugh!
I tried, but the cheese got so thick so quick that I only made it a few chapters in before I had to walk away. Between the Matrix-like brain programming and the throw-away line explaining why these guys were using antiquated (in their time) M4s, I could tell this one wasn't for me.
Oh and I can't believe that I seem to be the first person to mention this, but it's impossible to listen to this on an Alexa device. I'm sure Anspach and/or Chaney thought it was terribly clever to name the A.I. (a main character) "Alexa" & even have its creator in the story admit that it was a deliberate dig on Jeff Bezos, but I listen to my audiobooks ON an Alexa device. The constant interruptions were at least 50% of why I rated it as I did & why I returned it. Didn't feel like I should have to reset the wake word on all my devices just to listen to a story that started on shaky ground to begin with.

Yes!! Bring on book 2!! Did you start writing it yet??
This was tremendous fun! Be prepared because once you’re hooked you won’t want to put it down. I am bleary eyed from lack of sleep. I couldn’t stop listening. Of course my job got in the way some. The story isn’t the same ole same ole Sci fi. RC Bray is as always the best at narrating and adding his special kind of vocal mojo. I highly recommend this book and yes I would love a book 2 and then some.

Meh. Just Meh
This isn't a gripping story. Its starts in very much the spirit of The Remaining with the author in love with the idea of being a Marine. I got glimpses of an over excited redneck dreaming of what it'd be like. he's learned all the lingo and now he gets to shoot people!
The story is pretty derivative. You know the whole thing before it happens. The broken AIs the other reviewers touted as amazing have the odd moment that make you chuckle, but Skippy they aint!
The Bobiverse and Expeditionary Force books blow this away, They're far more creative and the characters actually call to you. I honestly can't remember a single characters name from this and I only finished it a couple of days ago,
In the background, not paying attention, it's a passtime book. if you want a riveting story or something to the standards of Expeditionary Force - look elsewhere.
R.C Bray - Awesome as always, but not much to work with this time I don't think. If it was anyone else narrating I'd have cut my losses half way through I think.

Best random recommendation I ever got.
Book was recommended to me as an Audible recommendation. I have just finished my last books of Hell Divers, Galaxy’s Edge and Expeditionary force and was feeling depressed because of the whole 2020 Covid theme, miserable weather and lack of free time, this book literally saved me from that. It came as a hell of a surprise. A whole new world of characters and a new story, unlike all 300+ sci-fi books I’ve listened on Audible since becoming member and 2017. This book really helped me out and I hope it will do the same for others. From the bottom of my heart a RECOMMENDATION, and all the best wishes to all who made this project happen. Merry Christmas everybody and let us have a proper year in 2021. Cheers.

Unexpected surprise
Wasn't sure if was in the mood for another military space opera and concerned it would be very generic. It was actually very good and a very entertaining listen.

Alexa - really!?
Couldn’t listen to the book it kept setting off my phone tv and any other Alexa devices in the house. Absolute pain. Lesson for the author - don’t call your main ai Siri or Alexa in an audiobook 🤦♂️

Great, great book. Well done Jasón & Bray.
This book is intriguing, well written and bang on good fun.
If you know Podium publishing, RC Bray or Jason; then you knew before listening that this was gonna be good. I’m honestly excited to download the next book in the series; and find out what’s going to happen to these great characters. Brady is obviously awesome.
You’ve done it again.
Thank you again Mr Bray. Keep KTF’ing these books!! Hope to see you back on the edge

Flashes of brilliance but mostly "okay".
I was a bit disappointed in this but did enjoy it. There seems to be lots of plot threads left hanging and not in a way that feels like they'll be resolved and some of the reasoning behind characters actions is a bit shonky, my main sticking point is the ship being delayed by 400 years and Alexa's memory wipe, no-one seems particularly bothered, characters just seem to shrug and move on. The villains are totally one dimensional with zero characterisation. Brody is fun but there's no real explanation of how he's running about as an empty tech war suit, where's his program housed? The new planet rarely gets any description beyond a bit of flora, forna and a couple of animals.
Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the book but it's hardly Skippy or Bob if you get my meaning. It feels a bit like an early draft to be honest.
RC Bray is excellent as ever.

Awesomely awesome
Excellent story that got me hooked - plenty of misdirection that keeps you wanting to know what happens next. I’m a massive fan on military sci-fi and this delivers. Thanks for keeping me entertained while I wait for the next Ex-Force to come out 😉

Great story but........
Space Force? Man every time I heard it I kept thinking of a pathetic orange man who was once in charge.......
Haha other than that, Brodie will go down in history as one of the most memorable AI's that have ever been imagined. Maybe except for Skippy the Magnificent, or the Bobiverse, but that's an argument for another time. This was a great read and Jason smashes it out the park again. And of course, Bob's narration is second to none. See you all on the next one.

F F Fantastic
The rating of 5 star was easy choice.
Not only characters, story line, i found it engaging on so many fronts.
If your a sci fi buff and don’t mind a little violence
you’ll j j just have to listen and b b be blown away, in particular by one bulky warrior with some of the best one liners history has to offer.....
Well maybe for a particular time period!
I’ll let you decide.

Misses the mark.
This story has a lot of potential but ultimately misses the mark. RC Bray is great as always and his performance is the only thing that really keeps you going in this book.
The story itself has a lot of potential, but it flounders and feels like the writers didn't really know what kind of story they wanted to tell. There are a lot of boring soldier conversations and gun fights that ultimately just feel like filler. I really struggled to care about the characters or the fights that take up way too much of this book.
I came upon this story after finishing what is currently released from Galaxy's Edge season 2 and I fear the authors writing is going downhill. Too much boring war/gunfight fillers and very little substance for a captivating story.
Ultimately I'm disappointed with this book. It had so much potential to be a unique sci-fi war thriller but missed the mark.

Awesome story
Great story with just the right amount of twisty turny plot that keeps the whole thing alive and with, who I think, is one of the best narrators in the business, this story comes to life and now I have to have more. Thanks podium for making me willingly spend more money to feed my addiction. 😉

Wow... its like the best meal you have eaten
Seriously...if you are a fan of military sifi... read this book... the ingredients are expertly balanced... narrative, character development, pace, plot and Brody “what a guy” ...and Mr Bray you legend... i don’t know how you shift from one character to another ... you are an “artist’ sir...
