Publisher's summary

Rush is a Fae Guardian, a wolf-shifter whose enhanced abilities have made him a ruthless protector of Elphyne. His job is to protect the realm from the human enemy, and to ensure the sins of the past never come to pass again, lest magic die forever. But one night of weakness resulted in a curse worse than death - exile. Now he spends his lonely time longing to be part of the living, once again protecting them from monsters…until one mysteriously washes up on the shores of his lake.

Clarke is human. She's beautiful, feisty, and fierce. She's also the only person who can see him, speak to him, and touch him.

If he hands her over to the Order, she’s his ticket to having his curse removed. Unable to resist the opportunity, he tricks her into a bargain of obedience, never once suspecting his world is about to be turned upside down. The more he learns about this human enemy, the more he realizes she’s not the monster he’s been trained to believe she is. In fact, she’s capable of inciting passion he’d never dreamed possible again. But Clarke has a message from the past…sins are already repeating. This time, if they don’t stop the coming evil, it won’t just be magic that dies. It will be everything.

A new style of epic fantasy featuring steamy shifter romance, a dash of time travel, monster hunting, a band of brothers, fated mates, growly fae protectors, and their strong-willed women from our time. If you love your books full of pause-resisting action, romantic tension, and world-building you can get lost in, then this book is for you.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is book one of the series and it is absolutely amazing!

Rush is an exiled wolf-shifter and Guardian who swore to protect the world from the humans who previously destroyed the world. Due to his exile, Rush is unable to interact or be seen by anyone. Well anyone until he found Clarke, a human.

This is a post-apocalyptic dystopian world with a fantasy twist, a combination of two of my favorite genres. Add in the heat between these two characters and you have a perfect recipe for an spectacular story.

I love the contrast with Clarke who keeps fighting on and the grumpy Rush who has almost given up. Clarke gives him the push to keep going and I absolutely loved it!

I completely loved this book! The world that Lana has created is stunning. I also love the underlining theme of conservation you see within the story. The Fae flourish because they revere nature and reject non-natural materials. This is a stand alone with an over arching storyline & I will give you a hint... book 2 is just as good, if not better then book 1!

4.25 Stars 🌟

What a completely unexpected but pleasant surprise. I came into this series with absolutely no expectations and I have to say, I enjoyed the heck out of it. I will say that the cover was one thing that made me decide to put it next up in my TBR que (and that is not something that usually influences me either way) so there is that. I actually ended up alternating between listening and reading, but listened to probably 85% to 90% of the book. I liked the narrating duo and it made the book seem to fly by.

I loved the world building on this. This was an original plot that I haven't seen before and with the way that I read, that is saying something. Clarke - the female MC -awakens not knowing what has happened and she discovers that she has been encased in ice for 2000 years. Seriously - it works.
So anyway, there was a nuclear war and with that came a nuclear winter. The planet was pretty much destroyed but has come back slowly and with that came the emergence of magic. But, human nature being what it is, there are always bad guys. Clarke is the first human to have access to magic (manna) and the human race has evolved and resulted in the creation of the Fae - who all possess magic. That's the background.

Clarke is saved by a wolf Fae named Rush and the story is interesting and compelling. I enjoyed it from the beginning until the end. It is also the setup for the next couple of books because the big bad isn't thwarted but escapes. It appears that two of Clarke's best friends are the next "humans" to awaken in this timeline and each have a part in saving the world.

Can't wait.

Slow start

Overall I really liked it. But, be warned the start will have you wondering what the hell is going on. I stopped at chapter 18 and started it over from the beginning and everything came together much better. You definitely have to pay attention to this one. It’s hard to multi task with this audio but, a welcomed sacrifice as the story is really good.

Love this new world!

I have been let down by so many new fantasy books lately. I really enjoyed this story. The world is a bit post apocalyptic and a totally new take on the world of Fae. I still don’t fully understand all parts of it but I can’t wait to learn more of it.

Zachary Johnson is a new narrator for me and I loved him. I’m going to need him in so many more audios. He was so good. Amy Landon is always good and she did not disappoint.

I don’t want to give anything away. But these two were so perfectly suited for each other. Both fierce and strong with a bad past. They both want to do better.

There is a lot to do with fate and seers and the future. I just can’t wait to see each guardian find their blessed mate.

Good

I often judge a book that starts a series by how much I want, or better need, to continue. This was a good book, but I’m not moving on to book 2. Nothing against it. Enjoyed it enough, but didn’t capture my imagination enough to continue series.

Left me grasping for more!

I loved having the two different readers. It helped my ADHD brain keep up with the story. I fell in love with the characters. I know there are numerous versions of wolves and vampires and human books out there, but this definitely has a special effect on me. I felt as if I was in the story myself. I loved the details.
