I’ve listened to numerous shifter books of all kinds over the years, and I have to say wolf shifters are at the very top of my list. Book one of the Shifters of Grey Ridge series by Reece Barden was a fantastic start and completely worked for me.

First, the narration was spot on and truly elevated the story. The audiobook is narrated by Victoria Swain and Xander Marceaux, and they brought these characters to life in a way that made the experience even more enjoyable. Victoria does sound youthful, but she clearly sounds over 21, which fit the character perfectly. The dual narration added depth and emotion that made the fated mates storyline even more compelling.

Reece Barden delivered a strong fated mates story centered on the idea that you cannot run from such a sacred gift. Of course, things become complicated when one of those mates is human. I really appreciated how that dynamic was handled it felt meaningful without becoming overdramatic.

Hayley was a standout for me. She was a strong human heroine who matched Cooper beautifully. She wasn’t whiny, and she wasn’t so stubborn or hard-headed that it stalled the story. Her character felt balanced and believable, which made the romance that much more satisfying. I also loved that she has a twin, and I have my suspicions about where that storyline might go and with whom, but we’ll have to wait and see!

Another big win for me: the hateful, bitter characters don’t triumph. I love when stories make it clear that darkness doesn’t get the final word. That’s always satisfying.

Overall, this paranormal werewolf romance was an excellent start to the series. I’m excited to dive into Book 2, The Alpha’s Inferno, which focuses on Marcus and Leila (Cooper’s sister). I’m really hoping we continue to see Hayley, Cooper, and the other main characters from book one as the series progresses.

If you’re a fan of wolf shifters, fated mates, and strong heroines, this one is definitely worth the listen!

The plot was interesting. I did not like the female narration, so that made it a bit difficult to listen to.
