Publisher's summary

Emmy Award-winning actress Tatiana Maslany narrates a brand-new special edition recording of the first audiobook in the worldwide best-selling trilogy from Suzanne Collins!

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to death before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Still, if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

This special edition audiobook includes a bonus track Q&A with Tatiana Maslany!

Though it's hard to argue with Merriam-Webster, we all know that life means something more than the standard dictionary definition—or, at least, we want it to. If you're searching for insights into the meaning of life, or words of inspiration to make your life more meaningful, there's no better source than authors of great works of literature. From Shakespeare to Alice Walker, from Jane Austen to Saul Bellow, iconic authors have a lot to say about life.

Editor's Pick

FWIW, I’m team Peeta Tatiana
"Somebody give Tatiana Maslany all the awards. The youthful yet somber quality to her voice makes her a natural Katniss, breathing new life into Panem. I devoured Maslany’s new recordings this summer, but I have to admit there’s something very different about listening to The Hunger Games as a 31-year-old mom vs. listening to it as a teenager myself. I cried from the first chapter onward, but it’s just a testament to the compelling nature of Collins’s dystopian modern classic. "

I hope she records the others

I have loved these books for years. I heard this was an excellent audiobook so I bought it and I don't regret it at all. I truly hope she records the other two at some point because she gets it. The dialogue is perfectly executed, the voices are great. You feel it. Catherine McCormick is wonderful but she just doesn't pull off the teenager vibe. I'm sad I've finished it already! I guess I'll have to listen again!

pretty standard YA

Not a bad book, different enough from battle royale to set it apart despite some of the story beats being similar. I find that the plot is a little too convenient for the MC at times but I see why it got so popular.

Tatiana Maslany does an amazing job

I’m one of those “original” fans of the Hunger Games, having read the books before the movies came out. So in terms of story, it is definitely a 5 stars for me.

In the last few years I have favored audiobooks and have fallen in love with the medium. I was originally hesitant when I saw that Tatiana Maslany was the performer given that I have learned that being a great actor doesn’t mean you’re a good audiobook reader (and she is a GREAT actress as demonstrated on Orphan Black).

So I was pleasantly surprised in how easily she hooked me up with her narration. Hunger Games is a very emotional read and she certainly makes those emotions pop on every sentence. Great work and can’t wait to listen to the rest of the series!

perfect for Katniss.

The narrator was really great, she sounded exactly how I assumed Katniss would sound and with the other characters she gives them mostly believable voices.

Enjoyed it

I read this a long time ago, but never read the rest of the books because someone spoiled a death for me. I’ve seen all the movies and enjoyed them immensely. The audiobook was enjoyable to listen to. One thing i liked a lot was that Tatiana Maslany (the narrator) has a similar sort of voice and tone that Jennifer Lawrence displayed in the movies, which helped connect it all together for me. Now, on to book #2!
