Publisher's summary

The Ickabog is coming…

A mythical monster, a kingdom in peril, an adventure that will test two children’s bravery to the limit. Discover a brilliantly original fairy tale about the power of hope and friendship to triumph against all odds, from one of the world’s best storytellers.

The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them.

Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Could a myth unseat a beloved king? Could a myth bring a once happy country to its knees? Could a myth thrust two children into an adventure they didn’t ask for and never expected?

If you’re feeling brave, immerse yourself in this audiobook to find out....

Delighted

I really didn't know what to expect, but JK has once again proven her mastery of writing children's stories that captivate an audience of all ages. And Stephen Fry did an exceptional job as orator. Awesome, highly recommend!

Great story- many characters- beautifully read.

Bit of a slow burn in the beginning, what with all the people/places we are being introduced to. Worth it. Keep going. Some themes feel like this last year, food insecurity, death, fear, and the power/ shame cycles of people in power. the story is safe for kids to hear but might be a little too close to home if your 2020 was dealing with these themes. Bit depressingly real in the middle... and being so real I felt like my real life problems have had closer or hope of closer to come.

FABULOUS!!

I have now listened to this marvelous story twice and in her exquisite storytelling fashion, JK Rowling tied up all the loose ends! She never leaves you wondering what happened to a character, no one is ever forgotten.

I adore this charming fairytale world of Cornucopia, the Ickabog and the brave children who befriend him. This is an absolutely charming and story that I will one day read to my grandchildren! Thank you J K!

Awesome story!

I love Stephen Fry from the Sherlock series and I think he was the perfect narrator for this book. Started off a bit slow but as the characters developed, the story became far more engaging.
