Bookshop owner Penelope Thornton-McClure and her gumshoe ghost team up to solve the stunning mystery at the heart of a so-called "madwoman's" self-portrait in this all-new installment from New York Times best-selling author Cleo Coyle.

While gathering a collection of vintage book cover paintings for a special event in her quaint Rhode Island bookshop, Penelope discovers a spooky portrait of a beautiful woman, one who supposedly went mad, according to town gossip. Seymour, the local mailman, falls in love with the haunting image and buys the picture, refusing to part with it, even as fatal accidents befall those around it. Is the canvas cursed? Or is something more sinister at work?

For answers, Pen turns to an otherworldly source: Jack Shepard, PI. Back in the 1940s, Jack cracked a case of a killer cover artist, and (to Pen's relief) his spirit is willing to help her solve this mystery, even if he and his license did expire decades ago.

The book is still enjoyable, but it’s not the same without the narrators that have given life to the characters previous. Ms. Odin does an admirable job, but it changes the characters too much for me to not be distracted by trying to create them back the way they were in my head.

I miss Caroline Schaffer and Traber Burns!

I have enjoyed all the books in this series. Great plot and research into the story.

Excellent

As with the other stories this is great easy reading that still keeps you guessing. The only disappointment was that the two previous readers were replaced with one new reader. Although Tracy Odom did a good job they didn't quite sound like the same characters. Hoping a new book will come out soon.

Over-all great

I loved the previous books because of the narrating of both main characters.
The change in the reader turned me off the series

I do enjoy these stories, but I have one small problem. Women should be conscious of self-preservation. Therefore, locking the door comes before chasing the cat. Other than that I adore these mysteries.

Good but one bone to pick

The story was great! I absolutely loved every second of it, however, I miss the old narrators.

Miss the old narrators

The story never slowed down, there was always a new quest blending another piece of the mystery. The ending was surprising.

I really wish you wouldn’t change narrators. You get use to one and expect them
