Story
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Story
You define life or it defines you. In Shawn Speakman’s case, it was both. Lacking health insurance and diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2011, Shawn quickly accrued a massive medical debt that he did not have the ability to pay. That’s when New York Times best-selling author Terry Brooks offered to donate a short story that Shawn could sell to help alleviate those bills—and suggested he ask the same of his other writer friends. Unfettered is the result: An anthology built in order to relieve that debt, featuring short stories by some of the best fantasy writers in the genre.

Wasted my money on this one. This is included in the Full Book (The Gathering Storm). Please need to up vote newer reviews warning others... so other people don't make the same mistake in thinking they need to buy this prologue. Nothing is new here. Amazon should take this down... or credit the money back when people get the actual book. I rated the performance 5 stars... the readers are incredible.

Exactly what I expected, something extraordinary
First of, I have read a majority of the WoT books and finished the remaining of the series via these Audio tapes. The quality of the reading by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading is superb. It is so much, to the extent that I will be purchasing the Gathering Storm audio only once it is released, as I have become attached to their interpretations of the characters and narration. In regards to the prologue, Brian Sanderson has done RJ well. Any WoT reader and fan will be pleased to find out that it seems exactly like RJ has never left - or even that what guided RJ in his writing is in spirit, with Brian Sanderson. Also, the beautiful thing about the audio tapes is I didn't notice one difference in Brians writing vs RJ - since it's being read to you! I highly recommend this as well as the series to any fan of Fantasy or great story telling of what really to me, embodies more than the typical light vs dark themes. I've learned and applied much of this series to my life - the subtle themes and lessons to be learned are there like diamonds sparkling in the rough. The first time I ever cried for someone I did not know, was when I heard of the death of Robert Jordan. It moved me that much, and I know it will do the same for you. Please, read his books.

Prologue Separated? Don't do this...
After having listened to the Gathering Storm, and thoroughly enjoying the next enthralling episode in Jordan's Fantasy Epic series, I looked at this and thought it would be an interview with Brandon Sandersonand Harriett McDougal , similar but in more depth to the one on the main audiobook. It does say in the 'blurb' that it inlcudes a 'bonus recording...' of the 2 people. And so for some reason my mind thought it would be like a mini Audio Documentary about Brandon, Harriett, and of course Jordan, and where to next (the next couple of books).
Boy was I disappointed!! It is literally the 'Prologue' from the book!! The book I ALREADY have!! So this was a complete waste of money.
Okay, if you want to go out and purchase the first 50 pages of a book at Waterstones, and then return later to pay the full amount for the rest of the book (including the pages you have already purchased!) then this audio presentation is for you!! Whoever you are, please make a comment on this review as I am convinced you do not exist. Why would anyone want to do that???
Please do read my review of The Gathering Storm Though when I write it, as this is one of the most exciting of ALL the books in the series (though having just completed book 13, well lets just say that 11, 12 AND 13 are as good as each other!!).
My advice? DON'T BUY THIS!! Buy the real audio book instead. It is worth it, but if you haven't already, start at Book 1 (The Eye of The World), listen through Book 10 (Crossroads of Twilight). Then listen to New Spring (Prequel, but 11th book released by Jordan). Finally, Book 11 (Knife of Dreams) through Book 13 (Towers of Midnight), and the final book out later this year (2011).

Worth the wait! A five star start to the conclusion of this masterly and fantastic epic. Adhering to the highest of standards set by the late lamented Robert Jordan. With something portentous on the horizon, it hooks the listener almost from the first sentence. Can't wait for the complete story.
