When Rin aced the Keju - the Empire-wide test to find the most talented youth to learn at the Academies - it was a shock to everyone: to the test officials, who couldn’t believe a war orphan from Rooster Province could pass without cheating; to Rin’s guardians, who believed they’d finally be able to marry her off and further their criminal enterprise; and to Rin herself, who realized she was finally free of the servitude and despair that had made up her daily existence. That she got into Sinegard - the most elite military school in Nikan - was even more surprising.

Much Better
Book 2 of the black prism series is great. it continues with the story nicely allowing you to see how each character develops as it moves. it makes you want to know what will happen next.
Now as for the reader, Simon Vance is a VAST improvement than the reader for book 1, Cristofer Jean. Simon made listening to the book a great pleasure. he made the characters identifiable, unlike Jean whom made Kip sound like a whinny brat and Gavin sound like Keanu Reeves.
I do like like this book and can't wait for the next. I hope that Simon Vance will stay as the reader for book 3

Awesome story vastly improved by superior narrator
Simon Vance really brought this story to life for me. I found myself caring about the characters, and grasping the concept of the magic system better, and even understanding the political nuances better than I had when listening to book #1.
Even better, I'm left frothing at the mouth for the next installment of the series! As long as Vance is still narrating!
And I really hope that they manage to re-record book #1 with Vance as the narrator!

Any additional comments?
If this narrator reread book one I would buy the book again just to have a matching set. I'm getting through the book because I love the author but book one was just horrible to listen to. I like the series enough to listen to them again I'm the future but it will be hard to get though book one again if a new version isn't made. This reader is soooooo much better.

Great Book but Missing content in Ch 90 & 92
Any additional comments?
Great 2nd Book in this series. The narrator of this book was considerably better then the narrator of the first book in this series, I am glad they changed narrators. Unfortunately this recording is missing a large section of chapter 90 and 92 which hopefully will be fixed very soon. I had to go to the bookstore and read chapters 90 and 92 to fill in the huge hole in the story that was created by the lack of information in this recording. Can't wait For the third book to come out.

What did you love best about The Blinding Knife?
The development of complex characters and so much better then the first book. Reminds be a lot of the night angel series.
Would you recommend The Blinding Knife to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes if they have read the first book, but it ki nda bothers me that two action scenes are cut short.
Any additional comments?

Better
I liked the Black Prism but the narrator was absolutely atrocious. The characters all sounded like, A the same person, B a total monotone, or C, whiny little idiots. There was nearly no differentiation between male and female characters and it was almost impossible to listen, to the point where I couldn't finish and went and bought the hard copy because I liked the story. The Blinding Knife, is as good, I think, as the Black Prism, and the narrator is astronomically better. Really a joy to listen to. I would definitely recommend this.

Simon Vance is a Lightbringer!
As so many have commented, the narrator of the first book needs to be replaced. Simon Vance makes this series wonderful. Truly an enjoyable listen. Story progresses well. Keeps a lighthearted sense of humor. Highly recommended. Author and publisher would be wise to get the first book reread!

Fantastic Second Book
Couldn't put this down and I'm feeling a bit traumatized knowing the next book isn't due until next year! I really liked the first book but this one added a depth to both setting and characters that brought it to the next level. Again we have familiar fantasy tropes and characters but Weeks weaves them into a fantastic story.
The narrator is light years better than the one from the first book. I hope Simon Vance continues to narrate the rest of the series.
