Publisher's Summary

This might look like a self-help audiobook. It might even sound like one. Once you dive into it, however, you will find some differences. Unlike others of its kind, this audiobook does not promise results or give expert opinions. It is neither a miracle cure nor a magic potion. It does not pretend to have all the answers.

Rather, this audiobook is a plea for self-trust and a gentle guide to self-awareness. Instead of helping you become who you think you should be, The Art of Talking to Yourself hopes to introduce you to someone more interesting: who you are.

So this audiobook will not fix you. But if the words herein have their intended effect, you will reach the end realizing you do not need to be fixed. This audiobook, rather than a cure, is an exploration - a curious adventure into your inner mystery. If it inspires you to understand yourself better, it has done its job.

This book can change your life ... If you're ready

Reading or listening to this book alone won't change your life, you have to be willing to do the work.

However, If you're ready to take a good hard look, no matter how scary, painful or beautiful, this book has the ability to break you open and show you to yourself. It will show you where the questions need to be asked and where work needs to be done. If you're committed to doing that work, I guarantee you will see positive changes in your life. Real changes.

The Art of Talking to Yourself is dense, not like a scientific journal, but in its ability unearth things you probably had no awareness of. It's a strange feeling when that new awareness begins to enter your consciousness, but once it's there, you'll wonder how such huge pieces of yourself managed to stay hidden for so long.

I finished reading this book a month ago and the tears and epiphanies are still coming hard and strong. The epiphanies continue to build on themselves, peeling back the layers of my consciousness like the layers of an onion slowly revealing the core, and just when I think I’ve reached the center, it keeps going with each epiphany getting bigger and more meaningful. Just today I had yet another realization that I feel has been the most important one yet.

Reading this book has sent me on a rollercoaster ride of self-awareness and I have no idea when it's going to stop which is a little scary, but most importantly it’s extremely liberating. I am in the depths of the most intense and liberating experience of my entire life and I can't wait to see who I will have become once all of this starts to slow down.

A word of warning though...

This is not an audio book you should listen to passively at the gym or on your way to work. Sit down with it, give it ALL of your attention and let it work its magic. If you notice your mind wandering, there's probably something important bubbling up into your consciousness. That's the magic of this book so don't ignore it, pause it or put it down, let the book reveal you to yourself and resume listening or reading later. You'll be glad you did.

Highly recommended if you're ready for some profound self-discovery and serious changes in your life.

Took a while to get going but overall pretty good

My mind wandered quite a bit for much of the first half of the book. I just couldn’t get into the author’s stories. About the midway point she started talking about empathy vs apathy and that really caught my attention. Overall the author was straightforward with what this book is and what it isn’t. It won’t magically heal you, but she hopes it will give you a better understanding of how to help yourself.

Recommended by a friend and I would recommend it

Inspirational Is a Understatement

This book breaks off from the normal self help books in many ways by letting the listener follow along the writers experience. They learned what the writers learned through how they learned it. I found this method highly moving and deep as there is an element here that speaks to the parts of us that we want to avoid, push down or just lock away. Give this a listen, I know I plan to listen a few more times through.

Excellent Resource for a Better Life

The world is full of “experts” who are willing to tell you exactly what to do and how to live your life to find happiness, succeed in business, or almost anything else where you have a desire but don’t know how to go about achieving what you want in life. “Just follow my 5-step process,” “the step-by-step way to get what you want,” “the secret to succeeding at” almost anything is waiting for you at any bookstore, or online where all sorts of “experts” are willing to enroll you in their programs that promise success and fulfillment if you will just adopt their proprietary system.

The Art of Talking to Yourself is NOT a book in this genre of “expert” answers to all your questions. In fact, Viktoria Tugaleva states, right from the beginning, that she is not an expert, but a fellow traveller on the road to seeking wisdom and insight, not one who is there to sell you answers, but one to help you to ask questions. If you want easy answers, this is not your book. But if you want honest counsel, you’ve come to the right place.

There are no easy answers, Tugaleva writes, but there are honest questions. And the answers are not out there, but inside yourself. The key is to ask yourself the questions and listen to your own soul to find the path of self-knowledge and wisdom. This book is refreshing in its honesty and forthrightness. It won’t lead you down a garden path only to leave you disappointed when the “answers” don’t lead to the promised success and happiness, but it will point you to the one place where the meaning you’ve been seeking resides––in yourself.

If you want real meaning in your life, you will need to create it. If you want to really know yourself, you will need to embark on a journey of self-discovery. In The Art of Talking to Yourself, Vironika Tuvaleva stands ready to help you start that journey and walk alongside you as a guide––not an expert, but a fellow seeker––to share with you what she has learned in her years of walking down this path. The journey is well worth taking.

Good

Nice concepts. I see the author made some progress in speaking since this audiobook. I might buy the paperback for a future because maybe it's better something you read.

Interesting voice

The author is honest about her life like she is not worried about trying to make herself look good and admits to making mistakes. At first I thought how are we supposed to trust you now if you were so untrustworthy back then. I gave it to a friend to listen and we both decided it is brave to admit when you are wrong and be able to start over. Most of these gurus would never ever do that.

Not like the others!!!

This book was a breath of fresh air. I couldn't explain a lot of what was bothering me about these kinds of books before. I also was surprised by how dense and complex it is, like more philosophy than how to.

A Fascinating Book

This is a captivating book. Guiding me on how much power my thoughts hold. Directing me how to become consciously conscious of them and ways to change them so that my thoughts root for me and make me a better, more present person. The author shares some very personal things! The chapter "Conversations That Heal" will make you cry.
