Publisher's Summary

Four mysterious letters change Miranda's world forever.....

By sixth grade, Miranda and her best friend, Sal, know how to navigate their New York City neighborhood. They know where it's safe to go, like the local grocery store, and they know whom to avoid, like the crazy guy on the corner.

But things start to unravel. Sal gets punched by a new kid for what seems like no reason, and he shuts Miranda out of his life. The apartment key that Miranda's mom keeps hidden for emergencies is stolen. And then Miranda finds a mysterious note scrawled on a tiny slip of paper:

I am coming to save your friend's life, and my own.
I must ask two favors. First, you must write me a letter.

The notes keep coming, and Miranda slowly realizes that whoever is leaving them knows all about her, including things that have not even happened yet. Each message brings her closer to believing that only she can prevent a tragic death - until the final note makes her think she's too late.

Simply fantastic!

I've been recommending this book to everyone I can, adult and children alike. I've listened to it twice already and enjoyed it tremendously. My six year old daughter loved it too (though I'm sure she didn't understand all of it). This book is my absolute favorite kind of book. A tautly written, tightly plotted story in which all the pieces only make sense after you've read the story.
It was the best book I listened to (or read) last year!

Excellent intrigue story

This is a very interesting and exciting book. Really holds your attention and interest from thebeginning to finish. I will listen to it again, I am sure!I already have my older sister listening to it..and I suspect my Nona will want to hear it too! So, in my home, interest in this story is across ages 10 to 70! Great !!

Stellar

My 11 year old son and I were completely transfixed by the story. Tightly woven, engaging, and a brilliant thought exercise on time travel. Trippy in the best way and filled with lovable, imperfect characters. I was particularly happy with the adult characters who were crafted with uncommon respect and connectedness. We are ordering her new book right now!

Loved it!

I had a hard time getting into this book at first. It has a slow start but once the story gets going it is great! When I finished I went back and listened to the book a second time. If you have not read A Wrinkle in Time you may want to read that first!

Excellent story told by a wonderful voice actress.

What other book might you compare When You Reach Me to and why?

This book has the friendly tone and easy reading of the book "Close to Famous" by Joan Bauer. Though it would be impossible to miss the obvious connection to Madeleine L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time"

Have you listened to any of Cynthia Holloway’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This my first time to hear her and I would definitely enjoy another chance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted too, but that is rarely possible with my schedule, it took a few days during my commute.

Wonderful

I will never forget this book and I recommend it to all who love this style of writing. This style is realistic fiction if you are interested that is.

My kids loved this!

What made the experience of listening to When You Reach Me the most enjoyable?

My 9 year old twins would hurriedly get ready for bed without prompting in order to listen to this book on audible.

What was one of the most memorable moments of When You Reach Me ?

One night I forgot to set the timer and they were happily still listening to it 2 hours later.

What about Cynthia Holloway’s performance did you like?

She was expressive and kept our attention.

Any additional comments?

It's been a few months since we listened and my boys still talk about this book.

One of mh favorite stories

I even like the title, and let me imagine my time travel and letters. I actually like the way Miranda's mother speaks.
