Publisher's Summary

When seventh grader Georges (the S is silent) moves into a Brooklyn apartment building, he meets Safer, a 12-year-old coffee-drinking loner and self-appointed spy. Georges becomes Safer's first spy recruit. His assignment? Tracking the mysterious Mr. X, who lives in the apartment upstairs. But as Safer becomes more demanding, Georges starts to wonder: how far is too far to go for your only friend?

Liar & Spy is an inspired, often-funny story about destiny, goofy brilliance, and courage. Like Stead's Newbery Medal-winning When You Reach Me, it will keep readers guessing until the end.

Loved it.

Any additional comments?

Liar & Spy is a coming-of-age story dressed up as a mystery. Several mysteries, actually. All unconventional. All delightful.

Author Rebecca Stead finds the interesting in everything, be it Benjamin Franklin's reformed alphabet, peculiar fortune cookies, or the human tongue. It's hard to say where Rebecca ends and Georges (silent S) begins. A bit of Rebecca and Georges lives in all of us, I suspect, which may be why this book feels like time spent with an old friend.

Wait til you hear Jesse Bernstein's portrayal of Safer. It's a hoot. (That's right, a hoot.) It's a strange expression, if you think about it. I wonder what Georges would say about it...

Realistic Clever story

I'm 13 and I liked the story
it had an unpredictable ending and some nice details
I'd recommend this story to kids ages 8 or above😃
The narrator did a nice job over all
especially with the main with the main chractors voice but I thought Safer's voice was a bit rough

Favorite Book!

This book was very cool and fun to learn about. It’s based on this kid named Georges (silent s) and a kid named Safer. Georges goes to the spy club for the first time and takes on a mission that Safer has in mind. Read on to find out! I enjoyed this book and I hope you will like it to. Bye!

Not a bad story...

All - in - all, it isnt a bad story at all! A little predicatable and the naration in some places was a little.... errrmmm... questionable, but overall is was fine.
It a memerable book and its fun! It's like an old pair of slipper, warm and kind and nice!
I read a lot of junior fiction in my job (senior school librarian), and this isnt in my top 10, but I would reccommend it to the kids to read.
