Publisher's Summary

A moving debut novel about a foster child learning to open her heart to a family's love.

Carley uses humor and street smarts to keep her emotional walls high and thick. But the day she becomes a foster child and moves in with the Murphys, she's blindsided. This loving, bustling family shows Carley the stable family life she never thought existed, and she feels like an alien in their cookie-cutter-perfect household.

Despite her resistance, the Murphys eventually show her what it feels like to belong - until her mother wants her back, and Carley has to decide where and how to live. She's not really a Murphy, but the gifts they've given her have opened up a new future.

This book was amazing. I think that it is sophisticated yet younger children will be able to understand it. I like how this book is not a problem that happens a lot this is good because more people will be interested.

Great reading for a young pre-teen child.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to pre-teen children in the hopes that it would help them to reflect on their significant other.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I can't decide whether it is Carly or Mrs. Murphy. Both are major characters and you get to know them well.

What does Nora Hunter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ms. Hunter makes this book come alive. Great job!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not an extreme reaction however reflection on your own child hood.

Any additional comments?

I bought this book for my grand daughter for her 10th birthday along with a cook book for cake pops. She had asked for these among other things.

One for the Murphys

I just got done reading the audio book One for the Murphy’s. This book is about a 11/12 year old girl named Carly who is put into foster care after her moms boyfriend allegedly beats her. This book taught me to be thankful for my family and what I have. If you are interested in suspense, action, sadness, and violence then this book is for you. I give it a 5 star rating.

Awesome Story

This was an amazing book! I loved getting to know Carly and seeing her grow as a character. The author did a fantastic job pulling the reader in by the heart strings, and making you invested in the story's outcome!
