Publisher's Summary

Once the belle of her village, life took a dark turn for Adelaide upon her parent’s death. Plagued by lingering grief, there was not a soul who didn’t turn their back on her. They called her angry and spiteful...hell, they called her a monster.

One fateful day Adelaide finds herself alone, lingering on the edge of the perished woods - a cursed and evil place. Without warning, an orc army attacks.

Her village ablaze, Adelaide races into the perished woods, seeking refuge in a place of nightmares. With orcs at her heels, she’s desperate to escape. But when the young woman crosses an aging stone bridge in the middle of the cursed forest she’s met with an even more fearsome enemy. A troll...one who is determined to save her.

Okay story

This book was ok, the storyline was different; have not encountered any other books involving trolls. The snarkiness of the main female character was a total turnoff until it reveals the cause of it. Nick does a wonderful job with male characters; not so much with female characters.

3.5 stars

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I felt like the aversion by the heroine was realistic to the situation, and that is something that I love in books, when the h doesn't suddenly get over her fear/anger at being kidnapped just because of Body Betrayal Syndrome. (Which probably didn't happen because she wasn't initially attracted to the Hero.) I was also liking that the Troll was protective and sweet with her, since the very start, that seems out of the norm for paranormal stories, and I loved to see it. Overall a good story, and I'm kind of excited to pick up the next book in the series, to find out what happens with the Aunt, and to hopefully see these two again. Also, the audio was pretty great too. He did so well that it didn't even bother me that it was a solo narrator doing both points of view.

the end came to sudden

I really enjoyed this story! the naughty parts were just right in that not every sexy scene was talked out. just a few explicit scenes and then the rest you use your imagination. plus the male character seems super hot. I wasnt sure I'd like the narrator but I stuck with it. it's his female voice I wasnt a fan of

Disappointed

I guess I should’ve known with the title of the story that there’d be stress and conflict between the two main characters. I don’t like romances in which the two main characters continue to try to sabotage and punish each other. By the time I got to Chapter 11, I just gave up. I’ve loved all of Ms Lauren books that I’ve read so far, so I was hoping this would be one of the same. One of my pet peeve’s is when the hero spanks the heroine. I usually stop reading (listening) at that point. I didn’t get much further after that scene.

Beautiful story of a beauty and somewhat of a beast.

This book has action, personal growth by each character, and a wonderful and fantastical plot to the story. It touches on sore subjects such as inequality in the human society we have. It builds both characters well and I will absorb rereading this book agin and again. Nick Cracknel is a remarkable narrator. I would love to listen to him read anything from the the dictionary to Abstract Algebra. His voice is great. We spent credit!!!

Entertaining!

This was a entertaining and delightful story about opposites attraction. Despite the rough beginning and constant bickering the 2 found common ground and mutual respect, friendship then love. I would definitely recommend this book.

Well written, unique story, good narration

This story was truly a gem of a find for me. The narration was FANTASTIC! The story had a good flow, relationship building, and the main characters were well carved out. The story had just the right amount of world building to be a good fantasy, but still keep its identity mainly as a romance.
As someone who appreciates kink, I was also pleasantly surprised at how well kink was included in the story. it didn't feel forced and was tasteful.
If you like fantasy romances, slow burns, something with "Taming of the Shrew" flavor, a little kink, and just want something different to listen to, give this title a try.

***A gem of a book ***

I bought this without reading the reviews all I based my purchased on was the blurb and I'm not disappointed it's an intense story about a woman who was rescued by a troll and told her that now she became his slaves. Adelaide is feisty, angry and none trusting also very prejudiced (annoying) but I can understand why she is acting like a spoiled brat. anyway this story resonates to me and I have enjoyed it immensely. I love Brom his sweet, gentle and kind. Nick Cracknell is an amazing narrator and I love him but I would have preferred to have a female narrator as well for Adelaides voice.
