Publisher's Summary

A grumpy alien. A chatty, sunny human. For some insane reason, he wants her to look at him and see her mate.

Bash

I dislike people. I despise humans. A cruel mandate from one of my region's rulers has saddled me with a slew of little alien humans: I'm to put them to work.

One problem? I run a rock quarry, where humans’ thin skin is a detriment to productivity. Overseeing these humans is like trying to herd yanaks. If I don't burn, beat, or strangle them to death by the day's end, it will be a miracle.

Isla

I can tell the boss likes me, because I'm not dead. Bash is abrasive and acerbic, like some sort of alien love child between Michael Caine and Miss Hannigan. And maybe Ebenezer Scrooge. Bash is a little…anti-human race. But he’s not all bad. Sure, he's a little growly and he sets things on fire when he gets mad, but even villains need friends. And here? Bash is everybody's villain. Everybody’s but mine.

This book is so wonderful!!!!

If you like the romantic trope of the guy hates everyone but you. You have found your book!!!!! These two are the cutest couple and it has heavy content, ( which is a little hard to find in alien books some times). I promise you will love this book.

Even better as an audio

I love Cracknell's voice. He did a fabulous job with this story. I also think this book is even better as an audio, and that is saying something!

Loved

Amanda Milo has a strange and scary mind! Her stories have such humor in them. Oh there’s dark themes at times don’t get me wrong , but they are so good. She was able to get Nick Cracknell to read this awesome story. Love his narrations! Here’s hoping that these two can work together in the future.

A MUST LISTEN

I bought this book when it first came out, then I saw it was available to listen to on Audible and immediately pre ordered it. I was giddy! This book is so much fun to read and now listen too. The narrator was fantastic the characters are great I want a friend like Isla snarky, says what she thinks and maybe a little crazy (in a good way, come on aren't we all) I laughed all throughout the listen, I didn't want it to end. I love the writing of Amanda Milo. Now if I can get Contagion on Audio my life would be complete. Just sit down and enjoy this fantastic journey.

Couldn't finish

The story started alright and was fine. There were some funny moments, but the FL was difficult to relate to and it was difficult to tell if she had a genuine interest in the ML or was only into him for sexual gratification. Specifically when they acknowledge they like each other and she tells him they can be FWB because all the other guys she was with didn't want relationships. OK, fine. He didn't like this and later reveals to her that he had a sexual relationship with a woman and she left him and said he was too clingy after he expresses his love for her. She realizes where his hesitancy comes from. He makes it known that he wants to court her and invites her to his home. She immediately asks if they are going to have sex. He tells her no and then she proceeds to ask him what else could they possibly do if they aren't gonna have sex. As if getting to know someone on a personal level was out of the question. He tells her he wants to take it slow with her but the math just isn't mathing with her. At one point she wants to kiss him in public and he denies but then she keeps pressuring the man and he literally has to tell her to respect his boundaries. She would say one thing but her actions were completely different and if I was Bash I would be insulted. The FL lead just came off as hot in the pants. And perhaps the book improves in the second half but at this point, I was disinterested in the FL.

Loved it!

I love the print version and love the audio just as much. Nick Cracknell did a great job and provided the same voices for Gracie, Dohrein and other characters from the Stolen by an Alien series. Five stars for this performance of my favorite sci-fi grumpy boss/slow-burn/rom-com!

Laughed so hard I cried

I love this author, and I loved reading this book, but hearing the AWESOME narration and the comedic timing Nick Cracknell imbues the performance with made it even better!

A little slow going and the way the girl talks…ugh

So it starts off slow but then gets interesting. My only real problem is the way the female protagonist talks… she uses way too many idioms, even when he begs here to speak plainly. It seems that she could have spoken clearer. I thought she would but it got worse. It didn’t hurt the story too much but I am very forgiving if the storyline is good

Good narration. Too Long of Unnecessary Character (side ones) intros

Good narration and story plot, but all of the women (whether part of of the same universe or story plot or not) are annoying. Don’t mind the description, but it’s overdone with Gracie and not enough intro for the MAIN female lead. Isla. Don’t care for Beth as both of them are just weenies pretending to be tough. Keep it to 1-2 female leads or things kinda clash. Other than that, awesome story. Was just hard to tread into.

A winner in every way!

Insanely funny and original story. Love it. It is a lot of story, Haleluja! that also ticks all the boxes. Superb backstory and worldbuilding, the characters are written beautifully ... same for the story as a whole. So funny and lovely. The story takes control of you from beginning to end, never letting you go nor letting you down. Perfect!

At the moment I can not find another story I own by Amanda Milo. But I don´t believe this is the first story I have read by her either. This is a name I connect to something good soo ... At least Amanda Milo is now firmly in my favorite stack. Am looking forward to read/listen to more books written by her. Please get more of them on Audible.
