Publisher's Summary

Making conscientious choices about technology in our families is more than just using Internet filters and determining screen time limits for our children. It's about developing wisdom, character, and courage in the way we use digital media rather than accepting technology's promises of ease, instant gratification, and the world's knowledge at our fingertips. And it's definitely not just about the kids.

Drawing on in-depth original research from the Barna Group, Andy Crouch shows listeners that the choices we make about technology have consequences we may never have considered. He takes listeners beyond the typical questions of what, where, and when and instead challenges them to answer provocative questions like "Who do we want to be as a family?" and "How does our use of a particular technology move us closer or farther away from that goal?" Anyone who has felt their family relationships suffer or their time slip away amid technology's distractions will find in this book a path forward to reclaiming their real life in a world of devices.

Eye Opening and Challenging

Great stuff to think through for the family and kids. Made me think again about my own habits and the habits I don't want my family members to develop.

Not just informative and wise but inspiring

It doesn't merely answer the question of "How do we deal with our kids and the screens that surround us and hog our attention?" It also explores the larger questions of "What are families all about? What makes life meaningful?" It presents a vision for these things that is both Christian and deeply humanistic and is told simply with real life examples.

Very practical advise and observations

While there is no magic recipe to deal with the problems, the author does help the viewer to see tech use from a perspective that will help most families.

Practical & Insightful

I appreciate the author's ideas presented in a " this is what we try and why - use these ideas as a guide not as the only approach" attitude. Very approachable/ conversational. Will definitely listen to this again. and will recommend this to others.

Life changing

This book will forever change the way our family creates, rather than consumes. Thank you, thank you Andy Crouch for your wisdom and courage in parenting, and for sharing it. May God bless you.

A Christian Perspective on tech influence

Informative without being overly preachy. An emphasis on family time rather than technology time. I am going to recommend this to our school ( Christian school) as good information for parents of young children and even teenagers. Though I think it is better for parents of young children.

Convicting and wise!

There's lots of good here, and loads to implement immediately! I am going to take lots of what he talked about and put it into action with my family right away! I also appreciate the grace he offers, recognizing that every family is different. So I don't feel awful if I don't implement everything he says.

Wonderfully practical guide to helping families choose better over everything easy

I listened to this audio book after hearing Andy Crouch interviewed on the Phil Vischer podcast. As a busy teacher and mom of 2 boys, ages 10 and 14, I am always concerned about the time spent in front of screens. Limiting time is essential, but not easy. I loved Andy's 10 commitments and Crouch family reality checks at the end of each chapter. The example and genuine heart behind Andy's words prevent this book from having a condemning tone. Instead, Andy's insights and words inspire us to be better and more thoughtful in our use of tech with our families.

Not what I expected

No one told me this book is about one persons morality. I expected something enlightening about ways to manage technology in the family.

Easy listen with huge challenges.

Really enjoyed listening to this. Its content is insightful with very practical steps to help families put technology in the right place, all from a Christian mindset. Before even finishing the book was taking steps to free our family from all consuming nature of technology.
