Story
Women are constantly being told that it's simply too difficult to balance work and family, so if they don't really "have to" work, it's better for their families if they stay home. Not only is this untrue, Leslie Bennetts says, but the arguments in favor of stay-at-home motherhood fail to consider the surprising benefits of work and the unexpected toll of giving it up. It's time, she says, to get the message across: combining work and family really is the best choice for most women.

What does it mean to be an adult? In the 20th century, psychologists came up with five markers of adulthood: finish your education, get a job, leave home, marry, and have children. Since then, every generation has been held to those same markers. Yet so much has changed about the world and living in it since that sequence was formulated. All of those markers are choices, and they’re all valid, but any one person’s choices along those lines do not make them more or less an adult.

Story
What does it mean to be an adult? In the 20th century, psychologists came up with five markers of adulthood: finish your education, get a job, leave home, marry, and have children. Since then, every generation has been held to those same markers. Yet so much has changed about the world and living in it since that sequence was formulated. All of those markers are choices, and they’re all valid, but any one person’s choices along those lines do not make them more or less an adult.

Money. We love it. We hate it. If we don't have enough, we're struggling to get more. If we do have it, we're fighting to hold on to it. Why does money have to be such a source of anxiety? Is it possible to find peace? Yes! According to master integrative coach Nancy Levin, the real key to creating financial freedom isn't changing what we do, it's changing our limiting beliefs - and that requires more than just learning how to invest.

Often, they also grow quieter as they grow taller, which leads to less parent-child communication. But, as Natterson warns in Decoding Boys, we respect their increasing "need" for privacy, monosyllabic conversations, and alone time at their peril.

Yes & no
I love her encouragement, her ability to not make anyone feel guilty for their choices, her very good advice... but I feel like the ability to make a lot of money isn’t as easy as she makes it seem. I’m down for every part of this book except for the money part. Some of us can’t pick up & move to a metropolitan area & take our children away from their fathers. I live in a small midwestern town. I am a teacher. I love teaching! I don’t want to move or to choose a different career. However, I hate being on such a tight budget. But, as I said, the other advice; spot on.

Very empowering!
There was nothing about this book I didn’t like. It was a HUGE boost for my self confidence and actually has encouraged me to work harder and smarter. The author made me feel like the things I’ve been thru are ok and normal and that I have the power to change bad situations for the better. It’s not ok to sit on your ass, blame your ex and not take responsibility for your own self and your own future. I was very sad when the book ended....so much I’m considering listening to it over again. THANK YOU EMMA FOR WRITING THIS BOOK!!!!! You are an inspiration to me and many other single moms!!! Cheers!

Single Mommy Must Read
I am a first time mom and I’m not with my former partner and it’s taking a lot to have a place of peace and forgiveness and this book definitely helped me gain a perspective and understanding that you cannot control another person the only person you can control is yourself so you might as well make your life better instead of being dependent on another person I’ve always been independent but having the challenges of now taking care of two people has been a little overwhelming and this book definitely helped can you come up with strategies on how to be a kick ass single mom and be able to provide the best life for my daughter thank you

Truly Kick Ass!!
I have one phrase to describe Emma's book... GAME CHANGER! From the introduction, I was intrigued with everything Emma had to say solely because the title of the book has the best shock effect! As a Single Mom, I have been taught since I was a kid that single mothers are the blite of society, the women that were unlucky, unfortunate, uneducated, unloveable, unacceptable to marry.
Emma debunks and challenges each and every oppressive stereotype that has been applied to the umbrella term 'Single Mother'. Thank you for your uncanny, witty, and empowering knowledge! You have inspired me to continue on the path of learning to be a "Kick-Ass Momma" who works for herself earning a lucrative income, loves raising her children to be awesome people, love myself in and out my singleness, bless all that I encounter, and enjoy my life!

Mehh
There is definitely some solid, applicable information, though there is a noted overshadowing liberal standpoint.

Meant for trauma/death of spouse
Great book, I commend the comment to her story and the complete follow through in telling it. 1 STAR for my situation, this book is otherwise hard to relate to; however perfect fit for someone dealing with a partner whose had major head trauma and or death.

this book almost has me in tears
I should have read this earlier when my daughter was first born to cut or totally stop depression. Its almost 10 years later and as a black woman, I can still benefit from it, years later. I wish the author much success...this book really helped in a positive way.

This book is life! A positive road map for women
I adore this book and wish that it was written 10 years ago. It addresses and reframes every misguided belief that society and myself have regarding single mom.
It teaches on Mommy guilt, working, taking care of ourselves beyond shopping and lattes and dating. I love this book. My family has continued to tell me to stay small, don't date and wait for the kids to leave to have a life and this book creates a new roadmap of possibilities. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
