Publisher's summary

“A wise and fresh approach to mindful parenting.” (Tara Brach, author of Radical Acceptance)

A kinder, more compassionate world starts with kind and compassionate kids. In Raising Good Humans, you’ll find powerful and practical strategies to break free from “reactive parenting” habits and raise kind, cooperative, and confident kids.

Whether you’re running late for school, trying to get your child to eat their vegetables, or dealing with an epic meltdown in the checkout line at a grocery store - being a parent is hard work! And, as parents, many of us react in times of stress without thinking - often by yelling. But what if, instead of always reacting on autopilot, you could respond thoughtfully in those moments, keep your cool, and get from A to B on time and in one piece?

With this book, you’ll find powerful mindfulness skills for calming your own stress response when difficult emotions arise. You’ll also discover strategies for cultivating respectful communication, effective conflict resolution, and reflective listening. In the process, you’ll learn to examine your own unhelpful patterns and ingrained reactions that reflect the generational habits shaped by your parents, so you can break the cycle and respond to your children in more skillful ways.

When children experience a parent reacting with kindness and patience, they learn to act with kindness as well - thereby altering generational patterns for a kinder, more compassionate future. With this essential guide, you’ll see how changing your own “autopilot reactions” can create a lasting positive impact, not just for your kids, but for generations to come.

An essential, must-listen for all parents - now more than ever.

“To raise the children we hope to raise, we have to learn to become the person we hoped to be…. This wonderful book will help you handle the ride.” (KJ Dell’Antonia, author of How to Be a Happier Parent)

“Hunter Clarke-Fields shares her wisdom and personal experience to help parents create peaceful families.” (Joanna Faber and Julie King, coauthors of How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen)

Great Book About Parenting and Teaching Kindness!

I loved this book! It gave me some perspective on the importance of connecting with my young children and being mindful about how I react to them. I realized I no longer want to be an authority figure, but show them love and empathy while teaching boundaries. I highly recommend this book.

Good information but…

This book had good information that is applicable to raising my toddler as well as improving myself but I felt like the narrator was always…I don’t know, whining or begging or something. Her voice/presentation always bugged me. Nevertheless, I do plan on listening again and will probably buy a hard copy so I can do the exercises. Still 5 stars.

Great!

Loved this! It hurt my feelings as a parent but was amazing. It gave good examples of child behavior and even better examples of positive and negative reactions that parents have. the reflection assignments was so great! it kept me intrigued.

Insightful parenting

Making small shifts in our mindset can result in raising children with better awareness of their emotions which in turn gives them the confidence to make decisions and respond accordingly. My favorite take away was, “Connect before you correct”. The emphasis on the relationship between the parent and child results in thoughtful, responsible young people. Excellent read, easy to implement ideas, and lots of grace and space to practice. This book is good for anyone who wants to improve their relationships with others. (Adults too!)

Finally a guide that addresses the real issue: us

I have read so many different books on child rearing and upbringing, all of them essentially telling us parents that we just need to be patient. Patient towards our children, time, and practically everything else. The question has always remained with me: But how can I be patient? What if I'm just not a patient type of person? Until now. Thank you for finally answering the real question and helping parents address the main challenge in parenting: dealing with ourselves, our fears and insecurities and our own judgments of ourselves. Don't think I'll need to read another book on parenting. I may, however, re-read this one regularly from now on. Thank you.
