Publisher's Summary

Diagnosed with a disease that can't be reversed? Learn how to keep living life to the fullest.

Have you received a terminal or chronic diagnosis? Is your mind succumbing to age or illness? Can you ever find joy, peace, or fulfillment in these challenging conditions? The answer is a resounding yes.

Author Jarem Sawatsky saw the countless guides out there for those caring for the ill and healing the curable, but when he was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease he found there was nothing for those living with incurable illness. He quit his job as a professor and devoted his life to exploring the possibilities of living with chronic conditions. Now he's bringing his findings and insights to you.

In Dancing with Elephants, you'll discover:

  • Simple practices to bring healing to your heart and life to your new outlook
  • Humorous (and occasionally heart-wrenching) stories of Sawatsky's own journey
  • Multiple ways to build confidence in yourself, even when you've been shaken to the core
  • A new perspective to cut some of the pain and renew your spirit
  • Practical tools to face your seemingly inescapable fears, and much, much more!

Based on the popular blog of the same name, Dancing with Elephants includes insightful interviews with chronic disease experts Toni Bernhard, Lucy Kalanithi, and Patch Adams. Sawatsky's landmark book provides support that only a fellow traveler down this road can offer. If you like touching stories, mindful wisdom, and a touch of irreverent humor, then you'll love Sawatsky's life-changing book.

Deeply touching

Jerem's gift of insite in this wonderful book will touch you deeply. Suffering and uncertainty are not so dark with lights like this book. There is human dignity between these pages. Hope too.

What do you envision when you read the words 'Dancing with Elephants'?

Now have a listen and hear the reality of the dance. Unbelievable story.
The most thought provoking, heart tugging, inspiring, comprehensive glance at life with an elephant in the room. Each of us is given but one chance at the journey called life. Make it the journey of your choice, while you have a voice. This book gives you examples of how you and your family can love one another while laughing and dancing with the elephant. May your last words be "love". May those you love, truly understand the difficult decisions made on your behalf are that which you understood were necessary and approved of. Talk to and about the elephant before your voice is no longer a power. I will share this book with many. I thank Mr. Sawatsky for sharing this important book with all who take the time to really "hear" it. Blessings for a peaceful transition.

dreary and off-putting

maybe it's just me, but this book is very dreary. I hoped for more positive, uplifting, energetic ideas. The voice is, to me, dreary, as is the content. I may try again to listen to it in the future, but for now it is "shelved".

Excellent reading. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book on mindfulness, written by a man while dealing with a terminal disease. But I also think everything I learned applies much more widely to all of us. My mother has dementia and I am her caregiver. I found the concepts very helpful to remaining positive and happy.

If you stumble, make it part of the dance.

The book has encouraged me to begin my dance and seek out my Mandela garden. It is a thoughtful and poignant work that has lead my to further reading. Living with a terminal or chronic illness is an art. Currently watching a loved one, while experiencing chronic illness myself, the message validated many of the things that I witness and experience daily. So many individuals write books about the subject. Me Sawatsky lives it. There is s difference! I am so very thankful that I discovered this book during a search for a new book to read. It helps put things in perspective.
