Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Peter V. Brett brings one of the most imaginative fantasy sagas of the 21st century to an epic close.

For time out of mind, bloodthirsty demons have stalked the night, culling the human race to scattered remnants dependent on half-forgotten magics to protect them. Then two heroes arose - men as close as brothers, yet divided by bitter betrayal.

Arlen Bales became known as the Warded Man, tattooed head to toe with powerful magic symbols that enable him to fight demons in hand-to-hand combat-and emerge victorious. Jardir, armed with magically warded weapons, called himself the Deliverer, a figure prophesied to unite humanity and lead them to triumph in Sharak Ka - the final war against demonkind.

But in their efforts to bring the war to the demons, Arlen and Jardir have set something in motion that may prove the end of everything they hold dear - a Swarm. Now the war is at hand and humanity cannot hope to win it unless Arlen and Jardir, with the help of Arlen's wife, Renna, can bend a captured demon prince to their will and force the devious creature to lead them to the Core, where the Mother of Demons breeds an inexhaustible army.

Trusting their closest confidantes, Leesha, Inevera, Ragen, and Elissa, to rally the fractious people of the Free Cities and lead them against the Swarm, Arlen, Renna, and Jardir set out on a desperate quest into the darkest depths of evil - from which none of them expects to return alive.

"GoodBook, but new characters that weren't there b4"

The author/publisher decided to add characters in a side story to the main story. It was very jarring to be reading and have a character there that the author treated as a long term companion.

    very poor decision and execution.

    otherwise it's great

"I've always been a defender of this book series..."

I can't tell you how disappointed I was with the final book. It is called the core but only 20% of it is really about the core.

    Spoilers ahead!

You can actually feel the point when Peter got the call from the publisher saying to hurry up. There is painful detail about all these side stories and then he just wraps them up with a few sentences after the big Core fight. He sets it up as if all these side stories were important but apparently got tired of writing or got that call I mentioned. I can only hope that he did it because he is going to do another book.

    Big Spoiler Ahead!

Also, pretty much ever character survives except our hero? Again, setting up another book I hope.

Lastly, this series has had so many painfully long details throughout the series. So, why was the final big scene and wrap up rushed and seems like an after school special? I though they might all hold hands and sing Kumbaya in the last few paragraphs.

Just a rushed, poor ending to one of my favorite series of all time.

    "The core: demon cycle, book"

This book was a fantastic story and very well read.
However i thought there was way too much unnecessary graphic descriptions of sex acts which could have bern avoided without detracting from the story line. There was some in the other books but this one seemed to be taken to a whole new level and i was very disappointed in the author Very definitely this is an adult book

"Awesome story turnes into erotic fiction!"

Seriously ive read everything and was a huge fan until this book. Im not a prude by any means and the sex and erotic descriptions in the previous books never bothered me. The Core on the other hand is nothing but erotic fiction and it sucks. Go get laid and try again Mr. Brett because youve ruined your series.

    "What an ending!"

Years ago when I first read The Warded Man I knew I was going to wait impatiently for the end of the story.....well I made it through! With tears, laughter, and now a certainty that this series could not have been any better! All the characters, storylines and details that seemed so complex, and only grew more complex with each book, came together so perfectly at the end! Pete Bradbury did a wonderful job narrating, it’ll be hard to listen to him narrate anything else and not think of these books!

    "Enjoyable"

i loved the warded man but found myself becoming less interested as the story expanded and progressed. Mostly because I wanted to hear more about Arlen. I found though this one to be a fulfilling completion of the story.

    "Great Series Ending"

Finally we get back to killing demons! After being disappointed with the last 2 books I am relieved to say that this book was awesome! Battling corelings, taking down evil, and saving the world! all the characters stopped being annoying and finally started fighting demons. There were somethings that I am not clear on the motivation for (elisha's child is all I am going to say) but otherwise a very enjoyable read.

"Phenomenal Ending to My Favorite Fantasy Series. "

I have been following the Demon Cycle since its release in 2009. The series stands out as my absolute favorite fantasy series. I even have my own tattooed wards. The Demon Cycle is an excellent adult fantasy and I could not recommend it more. Mr. Brett weaves together excellent characters and setting that I think any fans of fantasy or horror literature will enjoy. I must also point out that his writing has been consistent and his schedule absolutely on point. I know that you can't rush art and sometimes author's lives and health get in the way but I applaud Mr. Brett in releasing a fantastic series to his audience at a pace that did not disappoint his readers. I look forward to whatever he has to bring us in the future.

Audible Note: This was the first book in the series that I have listened to instead of reading. Mr. Bradbury did an excellent job. If I see his name on future listens I know I will enjoy his narrations.
