Publisher's summary

A vampire in Zombieland.

You wouldn't like Coburn. People don't, as a rule; he's not a nice man. And that's okay, because he doesn't like people much either. People are food. You see, Coburn's a vampire, and has been for close on a century.

Five years ago, Coburn went to sleep - wasn't exactly planned - and he's just woken up to find most everybody in the world dead. And not cool, interesting dead like him; oh, no. Coburn looks basically human, and these guys...really don't. He likes blood, and they like flesh. He's smart; them, not so much. But they outnumber him by about a million to one, and their clotted blood cannot sustain him. Now he's starving, and on the run, and more pissed-off than a beestung rattlesnake. The vampire has to find blood, soon, and - like it or not - he's gonna have to keep an eye on the frail flesh-bags he finds it in. Time for the wolf to turn shepherd. No, Coburn doesn't like people. But he's gonna have to learn to.

The Complete Double Dead collects Chuck Wendig's first novel and the follow-up novella, Bad Blood. Follow Coburn as he runs a gauntlet of supermarket cannibals, juggalos, super-zombies, and a ketamine-trip cult of zombie-worshipping New Age weirdos. It's a road that'll take him right back to himself, and onto the trail of his own vampiric sire. And on the way, he'll become something entirely new.

Refreshing on all counts

New take on zombies, and vampires, and the apocalypse. Chuck Wendig does it again. This book was tons of fun start to finish.

Witty & Entertaining

I loved almost everything about this book. The writing was excellent. Narrator did a fantastic job. Wasn't scary (bc I'm a big chicken). It was funny, smart, unique, tragic, and well worth the credit.
However, that ending...WTF, CHUCK?!?!? Sorry, it was very anticlimactic and I have questions. I feel like there are many loose threads and on top of that, there were many better ways to deal with the bad guy. JW was at Alcatraz, ffs!

Perfectly Ridiculous

Absolutely loved this book. You have to go into it knowing it reads like a comedy. If you take this story to seriously you'll completely miss out on how wonderfully ridiculous it is. I found myself completely cackling at parts of this book in the best way. This book is 100% worth the listen.

Give it time.

It took me a few times to start it. I just wasn't feeling it in the beginning. idk if it was just my mind state or the characters seemed a bit shallow. Finally, I stuck with it and it is now in my top 10! Loved it! The characters really bloom throughout the story. I wish there was more!

The audiobook was as good as I remember the book being when I read it a decade ago.

The narrator captured Coburn's personality perfectly. I read this a decade ago and enjoyed it. it was the first time I read something where vampire met zombie and I've yet to read anything that went about it quite the same way as Chuck did here. 10/10 would recommend.

Quite a nice surpise!

An interesting and different take on vampires and zombies. Excellent characters vividly brought to life...or...death! The narrator was fantastic. More of an actor than a reader. He was a perfect match for the smart-ass, snarky lead character! You won't learn anything from this book, but you'll enjoy the movie Cbuck creates in your mind.

Give it a try and stick with it!

Wasn’t going to listen to this at first; but happy that I did. Entertaining as hell, even laughed out loud a few times. Coburn reminded me of the late Norm Macdonald, Negan, and Sam Rockwell all rolled into one. Give it a chance and enjoy!

these books need to be a movie or TV series!

I loved this entire story! I've never heard this type of zombie/vampire scenario before. it was a great spin and new road for this genre to go down! I loved loved loved the main characters and Cream Puff! LISTEN OR READ THESE BOOKS!

You got so why not Vampires to?

Well written. I’ll listen to just about anything if it’s well written and engaging. The narrator’s voice for Coburn reminded me of Norm MacDondald which was great being that Coburn ‘s a sardonic and witty vampire. So for me the late Mr. Macdonald played Coburn in my mind. Loved it! Favorite moment in the story was when Coburn got the jump on some cannibals and when one asked “who are you”. Coburns reply was “I’m batman….no just kidding” and the he broke the guys neck. Hilarious!
