Publisher's summary

A fast-paced horror novel from award-winning, supernatural suspense writer, Brandon Massey . . . The night is full of wild things... When Kym Phillips embarks on a road trip from Atlanta to Los Angeles to take her younger sister to college, she's anticipating an opportunity to bond with her sister and a chance to see the country. And as an accomplished, single professional with her thirtieth birthday only a week away and no marriage prospects in sight, Kym is looking forward to some quiet time to reflect on the frustrating course of her love life. Waiting for them... He roams the lonely highways and barren canyons of the Southwest. Leader of a pack of vicious minions, he hunts the night for travelers far from home... for prey. Deep into their journey, Kym realizes that someone is following them. Someone with an uncanny predator's instinct. Someone with a sick hunger for blood. Someone who, no matter what they do to escape, is utterly relentless... Explosive, lightning-paced, and impossible to put down, this is Brandon Massey at his thrilling best. Not a fave

Initially, I wasn’t sure how I feel about this one. I’ve spent some time allowing my thoughts to form. I finally came to the conclusion that I wasn’t quite horrored because a) the virtual narrator didn’t convey any emotion and b) the story line was moreso creepy. Not scary. I have enjoyed all of Mr. Massey’s books but this one was not a fave. I’ll stick beside him though?

disappointing

I have read every book Brandon Massey has written so far and have enjoyed the majority of them. This book was just bizarre. The virtual voice was horrible, it sounded robotic. The story was disjointed and the ending was lacking, it took all I had to finish it. Definitely not one of his better books.

Just ok…

Massey has written some great books - Nana - for example, but this one was a miss.
Never explained how/why Daniel transformed into what he became. Some scenes were over explained while the ending happened too quickly.
The virtual narration was awful and took away from the potential scariness of the story. This is my second virtual narration listen; I won’t be listening to anymore virtual narrations.

I dove into story quickly

I really enjoyed the book but the ending seemed rushed or like the author didn’t know quite how to end the story but still great book

The story was a breath of sour, stinky, foul smelling air.

Actually, Several passages were described that way. But I liked it because I like my books stinky. If you do, read it but be prepared to forgo smelling certain passages.

I don't think I like AI voice. The characters felt flat, because the narrators voice has no character of it's own.

The story was decent, but definitely not "horror." There's no backstory as to why or how these creatures control humans.

good storyline

I love a good thriller and a super-natural story. Brandon Massey is an awesome writer. But I do not like the virtual narrators. They are horrible. Virtual narrators cannot change they voices to fit the characters and is not engaging. All the characters sounds the same, that makes the book boring 😴

Great! Per usual

I guess I'm biased. I love anything by Brandon Massey. I love his story lines and the twists.
