Publisher's Summary

The New York Times best-selling author of The Event Group series launches a new series of paranormal thrillers just in time for Halloween.

Built at the turn of the 20th century by one of the richest and most powerful men in the world, tucked away in the pristine Pocono Mountains, Summer Place, a retreat for the rich and famous, seems the very essence of charm and beauty, "a scene borrowed from a wondrous fairy tale of gingerbread houses, bright forests, and glowing, sunny meadows". But behind the yellow and white-trimmed exterior lurks an evil waiting to devour the unwary.

Seven years ago Professor Gabriel Kennedy's investigation into paranormal activity at Summer Place ended in tragedy and destroyed his career. Now Kelly Delaphoy, the ambitious producer of a top-rated ghost-hunting television series, is determined to make Summer Place the centerpiece of an epic live broadcast on Halloween night. To ensure success she needs help from the one man who has come face-to-face with the evil that dwells in Summer Place, a man still haunted by the ghosts of his own failure. Disgraced and alienated from the academic community, Kennedy wants nothing to do with the event. But Summer Place has other plans.

As Summer Place grows stronger, Kennedy, along with the paranormal ghost hunting team, The Supernaturals, sets out to confront and, if possible, destroy the evil presence dwelling there.

A Review for Anybody Who Owns the Previous Version

Any additional comments?

Audible used to sell an unabridged version of The Supernaturals read by Jeffrey Kafer. I'm such a big fan of that book that I bought this new version to see if there were any differences.

Mr. Golemon has done some minor editing. The story is still the same, but the text has been cleaned up a little. (Personally, I miss some of the details from the old version.)

Imho, if you already own the Kafer version, there's no need to buy this one too. The minor edits don't warrant buying the book twice, no matter how good it may be.

Great read for ghost hunter and haunting fans!

When I was five, I crept out of bed and secretly watched a scene from a scary movie that my parents were watching. The scene was that of a door, in what I assumed was a haunted house, bowing in and out as if taking breaths. The scene terrified me such that it haunted my dreams throughout my childhood.

Decades later I happened across the same exact scene in an old movie. I am, of course, speaking of the 1963 movie "The Haunting" based on "The Haunting of Hill House" by Shirley Jackson.

“The Haunting of Hill House” has been the inspiration for many horror authors and screenwriters but in a twist from the average inspired story or movie remake, the premise of "The Supernaturals" is that the house in this story was the inspiration for Shirley Jackson's novel. When the story opened with a scene describing a breathing door, I was hooked.

"The Supernaturals" is a spin of the classic tale updated with an eclectic crew of talented "sensitives", scientists, the latest ghost hunting gadgets, and a back biting television network trying to produce a live Halloween ghost investigation show.

The authors spends a good bit of time setting up character backgrounds and motivations but never to the point of losing interest. It was a gripping tale with escalating risks and scares to the end. The characters, including a good number of skeptics, were interesting and played well with or against each other.

The reader read well. All character voices were distinct and realistic. It was a great performance and a great read for anyone who is a fan of hauntings, ghost hunting or things that go bump in the night.

Sooo boring!

I'm sad mad I wasted a credit on this long ass crap fest! Basically this is a book about how reality TV shows work with a dusting of lame ghost stories... the majority of this book explaining why and how this group of people are going to prove or not prove that ghosts exist and like 10 minutes of ACTUAL ghosts. don't waste your time or money....

A very enjoyable and creepy ghost story

If you like a ghost story with a haunted house, this is a great choice. It has all the necessary elements, including the uncovering of background history, to build a thrilling story.

Pretty much could not put it down!

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. The story drew me in right from the beginning, the characters were well developed and very believable. The subject was very interesting and the narrative was fast paced with no fluff or filler.

The narrator was spot on. His ability to change his voice with each character made this story come to life in my mind.

I will be listening to more by both this author and narrator.
Absolutely!!

A Very Promising Start to a Great New Series!

If you could sum up The Supernaturals in three words, what would they be?

Nail-biting, Emotional, Thrilling!

What other book might you compare The Supernaturals to and why?

I think that most books in the Stephen King collection would fall into this category of supernatural and suspenseful however, beware, his books are quite a bit more gory. Lillith Saintcrow's Hunter series also delivers a healthy dose of fantasy and other-worldlliness with her character, Jill Kismet, that are very gritty and character driven. Shirley Damsgaard does a fantastic job of authoring very "hard-to-put-down" novels featuring Ophelia Jensen, a supernatural private investigator. Her novels also prove to be a lighter read with a quirky main character and a similarly funny cast of suspects.

Have you listened to any of Stephen R. Thorne’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first book with him as a narrator but I look forward to listing to him in the future.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Time Multiplies the Horror of Summer House. Can anyone survive it's deadly secrets?

Any additional comments?

This is my first time reading a book by David L. Golemon. I will be gleefully searching for another of his books as soon as I am finished writing this review!

TERRIBLE!!!!!

If I could give this book zero stars across the board, I would. For such a promising title, absolutely nothing happens for MOST of the story. The author gives far too much detail on the minutia, like why and when the producers cut to commercials during the Live Show filmed at the haunted house, and little detail to the actual characters and ghosts! This should have been a novella with 75% of the middle cut out...just the beginning and end and be DONE!

disappointed.

The "Reality TV" storyline is cliché, and tedious, it took far too long for things to happen, However, the narration was good.

Actually a great listen

I was pleasantly surprised that this book I randomly plucked was not just well written and well read but darn entertaining. I found myself staying up late and squeezing in time to listen just because I was so engrossed in the story.
One of the better horror stories I've read lately with a nice twist that took me almost to the end to figure out.

Awful

I love long books but this one was torture. Ridiculous plot, terrible dialogue. Needed serious editing of repetitive plot points.
