Publisher's summary

The dead rise…

A mysterious incident in Russia, a blip buried in the news - it’s the only warning humanity receives that civilization will soon be destroyed by a single, voracious virus that creates monsters of men.

Humanity falls…

A lawyer, still grieving over the death of his young wife, begins to write as a form of therapy. But he never expected that his anonymous blog and journal would ultimately record humanity’s last days.

The end of the world has begun…

Governments scramble to stop the zombie virus, people panic, so-called Safe Havens are established, the world erupts into chaos; soon it’s every man, woman, and child for themselves. Armed only with makeshift weapons and the will to live, this survivor will give mankind one last chance against…Apocalypse Z.

Not Bad

Well narrated. Story pretty well done. Translation well done. Worth reading once but probably not twice.

Mixed Feelings

The premise of the book isn't a bad one. There are a few moments here and there I thought were evocative and interesting, but they were too few, and far in-between. Often, it felt as though ideas, threads, were abandoned, thoughts were left unfinished.

I also feel as if the book would have been a lot more dynamic if it were written as it was happening, instead of being related to the reader in the style of a journal entry.

Not bad, really. Just not my cup of tea.

Tense zombie apocalypse roller coaster ride

Any additional comments?

I consider myself a zombie apocalypse genre aficionado and I have either read or listened to everything out there from the zombie fallout series to world war z. Apocalypse Z the beginning of the end I would rate as one of the better zombie apocalypse stories. Told in the popular first person journal entry type writing style the story builds quickly as our main character slowly comes to realize the magnitude of the worlds predicament and his own need to survive the coming apocalypse. From the first mention of strange incidences of sick people becoming violent popping up here and there on the news, to our main characters first glimpse of the "infected" sick on his own street, we are swept along with him in his journey, the author is detailed enough to paint a very vivid picture of what is going on without getting to tedious, as well various city geography etc is obviously well researched as it is described very well, the story takes place in Europe and being I live in Ontario Canada I had no idea (other than very generally) of the places the author is describing in Spain, however I was able to clearly follow the story despite my lack of knowledge regarding the setting it takes place in. I found I was able to still become immersed in the setting of the story despite I was not familiar those areas of Europe. I quickly became invested in the main character and wanted him to survive, feeling the tension each time he pushed himself to do something he had to to survive. The author is excellent at character development allowing us to see our hero's human weaknesses and strengths right away, which I feel makes it easier to enjoy the story if I actually care about the main characters in it lol! If you are a lover of a good zombie apocalypse survival story them this book will not disappoint in the least. The narrator is excellent and I quickly came to relate Nick Podehl's voice as my main character actually speaking to me. His delivery is clear, smooth and believable, with the right measures of tension, excitement, despair or hope or whatever the appropriate emotion of the story should be at the right time. This book is worth a credit

Not a bad zombie story.

Not a bad telling of a typical zombie apocalypse scenario. I would listen to the sequel if it came out.

The lawyer and his cat.

The story is told in a survivor’s journal style. This is perhaps a European look at the zombie apocalypse. While rather wordy at times it is interesting if you can stick with it. Our protagonist, the lawyer and his cat, face the danger and chaos of the apocalypse. Three.point.five for the effort.

I wish all zombie apocalypse book would do this

Ive listened to this book so many times. The author executes the unfolding of the beginning of the zombie apocalypse exactly the way it should. It starts off slowly as peculiar incidences far away in another country, to right outside our door. I savored every moment of it. The narrator is one of my favorites. He IS the character.
