The promised cure for obesity turned out to be the catalyst that made the Black Death look like a quiet Sunday stroll. It infected hundreds, then thousands, then millions, until the world was all but consumed by the ravenous hordes it created. They found their way into every safe haven and fortress and massacred the few remaining survivors at will.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. Publisher's Summary
It was hailed as the answer to the obesity epidemic; a pill that allows you to eat anything you like and still lose weight. Millions were attracted by the promise of a leaner, fitter body, but there was a fatal and unforeseen flaw in this new panacea.
A tiny microbe, lurking within, slowly infects the users. In turn they pass the infection to others with a sneeze, a cough or a simple kiss, and before long tens of millions are infected and turned into mindless, shambling wrecks, with the sole purpose of existing to eat.
The virus is rampant, reaching into every corner of the globe. Governments collapse and shut down, unable to contain the outbreak, while the army works hard against the unending assault in a desperate bid to stop the dead from total victory. But there are even greater dangers to be faced. A few unfortunate souls suffer with the hunger of the dead but the mind of the living. They are neither dead nor alive, but something in between; something far more dangerous to the surviving humans. And amidst this carnage of the end of the world, in the south east of England, a small group of survivors are fighting on, against all the odds, as they try to stay one step in front of the dead, trying to avoid being the next item on the menu.
The question is, in a world now claimed by the dead, what will they have to do to survive?

A great listen!
Deadweight is an excellent addition to the genre. Despite how many zombie books us enthusiast reads, we can never get enough. Paul Forster delivers a well-composed, engaging, and exciting storyline with a unique zompoc scenario. This time around, a weight-loss drug starts the zombie apocalypse. The plot flow-smoothly, keeping the readers/listeners engaged. The characters are well-developed and diverse, and I liked how the point-of-views and time-lines changed, giving the audience a better insight.
Mark Rice-Oxley's narration is well-paced and clear. Overall, Deadweight is enjoyable and entertaining, and I would listen to a second installment. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

5 Stars for a Good new Z-Creation Concept
I listen to Zombie Audio books literally 5 days a week while a work - Thus I guess I'd likely qualify as an "Expert of Zombie Novels" of sorts at least at the Audio book level. For those who enjoy zombie fiction - we all know they will eventually follow a very similar story layouts, which we come to respect at a level. Thus - THE TRUE VALUE of a newly emerged zombie universe ends up falling in the arena of the Creation Theory. Sadly, most newly released audio books I've come to discover totally gloss over the Creation Theory or follow the same old monikers that align along Government virus weapons testing, etc. Well, HATS OFF to PAUL FORSTER for a Genuine new Creation Theory that is actually good! Well done sir! 5 out of 5.

Unbelievably mediocre to horrible. Just pass!
This book is just another poorly written zombie tainted post apocalyptic prepubescent nightmare.
The premises sounds promising and that is about it . Nothing beyond the jacket is worth the paper is was ill written on
Super cringe, unbelievable, just gross, way overly descriptive extremely graphic porn scenes. Not done well at all.
Seriously, this is just a waste of a credit and your time.

Loved this book
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
I was given this book in audio form. Being from the U.K. myself, I really love finding a new U.K. author especially if the books are also on Audible.
I really enjoyed the storyline because it started with the past and the present in separate chapters which eventually merge into the present. There was the right amount of action and tension captured. I loved the origin of how the virus came about, that again the story was based in the U.K. because I can picture it much easier. The author doesn’t keep favourite characters all the time which is brutal but also what it needed.
Would I listen to or read the next book? I definitely would. I hope that there is another book in the future. The narration was great. He captured the characters really well and he wasn’t boring at all.

Mark Rice-Oxley is a fantastic narrator.
I have never listened to a full audiobook before but Deadweight was a brand new experience, largely due to the incredible narration of Mark Rice-Oxley. The story is compelling but Rice-Oxley takes it to a new level and I suspect he could make any story engaging and inspiring. He made it a gripping experience, such that I had to keep listening to the whole thing with a few breaks because I wanted to hear what happens next. As a narrator he knows when to slow the pace and went to speed it up, how to give colour to the characters’ voices without overplaying it at any point. The understated storytelling allows space for a listener to breathe and “live” within the narrative, and hearing this zombie tale left me insatiably hungry for more.
It is impressive how a seasoned voice actor can draw you into a world that is vivid and realistic. I look forward to listening to more books on Audible, especially those narrated by Rice-Oxley. I don’t know if he does live readings or appears regularly on stage, but if he does, signed me up for a ticket!

Zombie virus
A weight loss drug turns people into flesh eating zombies is the premise of the book as we follow the stories of a group of people in this new world. This is not my normal type of book and perhaps not my most intelligent choice of an audiobook in a pandemic. The characters reeled me in via the narration by Mark Rice-Oxley. I’m not sure I would’ve finished this book if I had read it in the more traditional way but the story telling by Mark kept me entertained and engaged.
