Story
The Devil's Heart is a legendary object of unsurpassed power and mystery. Worlds that believe in magic consider it Darkness's mightiest talisman; and worlds of science consider it a lost artifact of some ancient and forgotten race. Some say the Heart enables its possessor to control people's minds and to amass wealth enough for a dozen lifetimes, while others think it capable of raising the dead, perhaps even changing the flow of time itself. But to all, the location of this fabled object has remained a mystery, until now.

Publisher's summary
For the last 1,500 years, the Klingons have revered him as the first Klingon emperor, the legendary warrior who united their people and taught them the meaning of honor. Myths and fables have grown around the memory of Kahless, but the truth of his incredible life has remained a mystery...until now. A clone of the original Kahless now holds the title of emperor. He thinks he knows all there is to know about his mighty ancestor, until the discovery of an ancient scroll throws the accepted stories into doubt and threatens to tear the Klingon Empire apart. Surrounded by treachery and rumors of revolt, he can trust no one - except Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Lieutenant Worf of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The past collides with the present as the true story of the historical Kahless sparks a battle for control of the entire Klingon Empire. Yet even if Worf and Picard can prevent a civil war, the revelations contained by the scroll ensure that the Klingon Empire - and the rest of the galaxy - will never be the same.

Abridged Sucks!
Decent overall but, as with most Star Trek audio, it is abridged. That is my only issue with this. The story was good. As was the voice talent and sound effects. But lit eft me wanting more content that no doubt was edited out for audio.

Kahless Still Lives On
Loved it, loved it loved it Kahless still lives on through the voice of Mr. Conway because he made you believe it. You don't get many books involving the Klingon culture that much but, this story here makes up for all of the Lost stories that can be told about them. The one thing that I can say I came away with from this story was to believe in the man not the myth and if you have faith you will always have hope. Lastly Captain Picard will always be an honorary Klingon. whether he wants to be or not. Kup-PLER

Fantasy Epic
THAT'S WHY THEY CALL IT TREACHERY, CAPTAIN
I love the Klingons. My Fantasy Football Team are The Klingons. Because all the Star Trek productions are so expensive in comparison to the length of them, I use the % sales to stock up.
BLOOD WINE
Unfortunately I found this one boring. The production and the narrator were good, the story just did not grab me. This may appeal to fantasy epic fans, as the Klingons belong to Houses and they fight each other outright or politically for power.

Very good Trek
These older Trek books are so much better then the new ones, there is no modern agendas put in the story to screw up the characters and the telling of a story. It’s just fun escapism with good story telling and it is not a Word salad like so many new Trek story’s.

Parables
Hearing the legends of Khaless (qeylIS) it was hard to believe them and I found the idea of parables to teach an idea easier to understand and transcend time. It would not surprise me the the original Khaless would leave a reckoning document that would ease their honor at how to create a culture based on that ideal. Clearly there is truth in each legends that may be exaggerated the way all tales are told. Kor the Dahar Master on DS9 is a great example. The Sword of Khaless was real, how it was made may be a bit of an exaggeration though. If you follow STO (Star Trek Online) the clone of Khaless is not actually Khaless (qeylIS) but their brother, Morath (moratlh). In that regard the legend of him being saved by Khaless from Gre'thor are real, in a fashion.
Now what I believe is that Khaless had knowledge of future events and that helped him shape the Empire and point them at Boreth with the time Crystals and his return. The scroll laying it all out was part of his plan to come clean all along, in time.

I thought I paid for a complete novel, not half!
The performamce was really good. Its been awhile since I heard the original Kahless. Though it almost deters the other voices of the Iconic characters though it makes up with narrative acting as well as score and sound.
BUT! I was expecting the tales of the actual Kahless from himself as it was in the physical novel. This version completely removes those parts which leaves it half-@$$ed.
What really happened when Kahless faced his brother?
Who was the woman he loved and carries an amulet as a keepsake?
Unless you read the physical novel, you will never know.

Not complete
This version of the book is NOT complete. It only has one part of the two stories from the book. I am sad that the whole book wasn't "adapted" to audio.
