While searching for the U.S.S. Huxley, missing for more than 10 years, the EnterpriseTM stumbles across a forgotten colony of humans on a planet called Rampart, where fiction and works of the imagination of any kind are considered a heinous crime. A survey team beams aboard the ship to search for "contraband," and the crew are drawn immediately into a vicious civil war between Rampart's mind police and a band of determined rebels.© & (P)1990 Paramount Pictures, All Rights Reserved; AUDIOWORKS Is an Imprint of Simon and Schuster Audio Division, Simon & Schuster Inc. sounds and effects were cool... frakes needs to work on his troi impression but overall good

Always enjoy the Star Trek novels. I like how Frakes can voice all the characters without overdoing, for example example, Captain Picard's British accent, but we sense the same authority and elegance from the actor we know.

a guaranteed good listen

The story itself was too short I suspect because this was an older book that was originally on audio tape that couldn’t take a longer story

Jonathan frakes nailed the storytelling

Jonathan Frakes is not a voice actor, and his voice is too distinctive and distracting when he is (poorly) imitating voices that are so well-known. It's a nice voice, just not one that works in this situation in my opinion.

And this is one of the lesser attempts at STNG fiction. Surprisingly, Tim Russ is a good narrator who subtly imitates the characters' voices. I'm listening to Genesis Wave and although it's not great literature it is enjoyable.

Just not really very good

This was not a bad story really. It captures the feeling of an early episode of Star Trek the Next Generation (TNG). Some people really like the stories of that era. I don't personally so I didnt love this book but I wont call it bad as it clearly is trying to capture the feel of early TNG. It is entertaining enough and I suspect there are people who would love this.

I think the voice acting is reasonably good with some good voice work for different characters. Jonathan Frakes is doing a good job. However, the audio quality isn't great. There is a background static that can be distracting and some sound effects that are obnoxiously loud drowning out some dialog. That is a real shame for the story and listeners.

Really captures Next Generation Season 1
