Publisher's Summary

It's not just a trilogy any more. In the fifth book of this popular series, Arthur Dent makes the terrible mistake of starting to enjoy life, and immediately all hell breaks loose. In short, it's up to him to save the world from total multi-dimensional obliteration, the Guide from a hostile alien takeover, and the daughter he never knew he had from herself. A tall order, to say the least. And one he's really not up to, thank you very much.

Don't miss the first parts of the series, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

What the Critics Say

    "The end...."

Great story, however, was a little disappointed in the way it ended. so I guess I'm going on to the next book, AND ANOTHER THING.

I'm a Cardiac Anesthesiologist with two college aged children. I used 2 check my kid's books for appropriateness & now enjoy those books 2.

    "Love Hitchiking"

Hitchhiker is just plain fun. I loved the series when i was young. I read it in college, and again in Med school, and again when i started reading for pleasure again, and now I am going to listen to them all.
I cannot wait. I just wish Douglas was alive for more, but I am about to read Coffer's installment (or try) for a 6th book in the series.

"Douglas Adams didn't like the end either."

After reaching the end of this book... the last book in the series... I was disappointed. I've loved this series, and hoped this would continue the trend. Unfortunately, it ended 5 minutes after Adams' good sense did.
I actually looked up it, and found references that Douglas Adams himself didn't like the ending, and planned on "fixing" his mistake in a 6th book. Unfortunately he didn't live long enough to write it. (Another author eventually did... but...)
It's not that the book is self is bad. 99% is just like the other 4 books. Martin did a wonderful performance, just like every other time. But the ending hits you like an awful punchline to a bad joke that you are embarrassed to admit you waited to hear.
I'm sure most people either already know this... or won't read this review until after they listen to it... but @#$& it... I needed to vent.

"was a tough ending but a great bool"

it is known that this book is a little rougher than the others. I really loved it though. it's funny and insightful right from the begining. Martin Freeman continues to give an award winning performance (as he did for the other 3). This book keeps you hanging on the edge of your seat always wanting more. If you are a fan of the series it is a must read!

    "Consistently Entertaining"
What did you love best about Mostly Harmless?

The series continues to entertain at high level and has yet to disappoint. I wish it were a TV series.

"Hilarious 5th book in the series"

A fun ride around parallel universes with the same circular logic, and quirky scientific explanations as the previous books.

    "Darkest Adams Book"
    Any additional comments?

Likely the best written of Adams' novels, prepare yourself for the dark ending. Tight plot, excellent pacing, and truly a bummer. Loved Freeman's acting, would like to hear his candid opinions on Adams' work outside of the publicity he did for the movie.

Douglas Adams, wonderful and witty as usual. Space gets infinitely more exciting when things are happening in parallel dimensions.

    "Really...?"

Adams...really? REALLY!? Really. THAT is the ending...really? If you don't get what I mean I'll at least say the ending does resolve everything... But really?
