Publisher's Summary

Stephen King's "gem of a story" (Chicago Tribune) about a child with extraordinary psychic powers who is on the run from the government. A number-one national best seller.

Andy McGee and Vicky Tomlinson participated in a drug experiment run by a veiled government agency known as The Shop. One year later, they marry. Two years later, their little girl, Charlie, sets her teddy bear on fire by simply staring at it.

Now that Charlie is eight, she doesn't start fires anymore. Her parents have taught her to control her pyrokinesis, the ability to set anything - toys, clothes, even people - aflame. But The Shop knows about and wants this pigtailed "ultimate weapon". Shop agents set out to hunt down Charlie and her father in a ruthless chase that traverses the streets of New York and the backwoods of Vermont.

"Terrifying and gripping" (The Miami Herald) Firestarter is chilling proof that "Stephen King is superb" (Time).

Poor Production

Any additional comments?

The end of sentences are clipped off abruptly. I had to stop listening about half way into the book. This happens only to SK books I purchase. The Long Walk, Firestarter and IT have this issue. SK and audible are not giving these these books away and the problem has been reported many times from customers. When will it be fixed?

Don't worry about the breaks in audio.

The performance is excellent and the editing is fine. The complaints from other reviews are of those who have become accustomed to the digital audio books of this century. This recording is from the days of cassettes with audio break markers between tracks so that cassette players can detect chapter breaks. The story is very well written and the performance is excellent. Enjoy and know that you aren't missing anything in the pauses.

Its a Gem !

What a great story.. I absolutely was not expecting this book to be this friggin GOOD !

I turned it on at 6:30 am on my way to the shop (wink wink) and listened for 14 hours straight.. I just wish it was longer. Seemed like there were no slow parts it just moves along at a good pace.. One of a kind.

Buy it !!!!!!

Wow just wow

Stephen King has an odd way of making you so involved and become the characters in his books. Once this book finally climaxed, I was excited, shocked, sad, and confused. Definitely a roller coaster and I highly recommend it.

Girl Against World

Dennis Boutsikaris, award-winning actor, voice-over artist and narrator uses his powerful voice and brings to life all the characters, locations and events portrayed in this unputdownable bestseller.

When a secret government organization finds out that a family shows signs of special abillities, they start hunting them down. But, the father and daughter might be more than they can handle. Firestarter is fast, furious, filled with unforgetable characters, both on the good and bad of the character side of the fense.

With Firestarter, Stephen King, one of the most influential authors in the World, shows us once again why he is the best at what he does. The book is a blast from the thrilling beginning to the satisfying end.

Bad editing

Great book. Editing is horrible. Constantly cutting off words and makes you question if you're hearing the entire book. This happened on more than 2 dozen occasions.

Great story, choppy editing

Story was fine, twists and turns, character development, etc

However, audio editing had some abrupt transitions and some phrases with lost end bits. You don’t lose any words but less polished.

book was awesome. one of my favorite. but the recording sucks. weird pauses that made it seem like I was getting a call. words missing because it cuts off early. I have downloaded multiple times and the same stops in the same places.

I really enjoyed this book and I especially loved Dennjs Boutsikaris as the narrator. I have listened to home before and he is by far my favorite!
