"An excellent read with plenty of twists and turns. Her strong and complex characters kept me entertained from its deceptively innocent beginning to its can’t-put-it-down end.” (Kim Harrison, New York Times best-selling author)

"Patricia Briggs always enchants her readers. With Moon Called, she weaves her magic on every page to take us into a new and dazzling world of werewolves, shapeshifters, witches, and vampires. Expect to be spellbound.” (Lynn Viehl, New York Times best-selling author)

“I’ve never been disappointed by one of [Patricia Briggs’s] books and this one is no exception...Moon Called ends on a high note and leaves you wanting more.” (Fresh Fiction)

Love this series

This is a great urban fantasy series! This is the first book and I'm glad to see it on Audible and hope that Books 2&3 also come to Audible soon. Mercy is a VW mechanic working in Washington State. She is also a Walker who turns into a coyote who was raised by werewolves. She bought her shop from a gremlin, fixes her vampire friend's van (he's a Scooby-Doo fan) and lives next door to the Alpha of the local werewolf pack. Although the Fey have come out in public, most people don't believe in werewolves, walkers or vampires. She is trying to stay out of the public eye until one day a young, staving werewolf shows up asking for work -under the table. Mac is a young teenager who was attached and forced to change into a werewolf and then sold to people who are using him for drug testing. Suddenly, Mercy is pulled back to the world of the werewolves which she left at 16.

Captivating

I exercise while listening to audiobooks. I would extend my workouts just to hear what was happening next. This book is a supernatural mystery with a little romance thrown in. The characters and the supernatural world the author creates are interesting and three dimensional. I highly recommend this audiobook.

Entertaining

This book did just what I wanted it to do; entertain. I had hoped for more detail about the characters, but it kept me wanting more. I would recommend if you are looking for an easy listen.

A good start

The first book in a series can be rough. You are often moving on from a series you just finished and tend to compare. This series is like that for me after just finishing Kim Harrison's Hollows series. I took it in and tried to let these new "friends" introduce themselves. Briggs does a very good job of doing just that. While it did not absolutely enthrall me, it did interest me enough to want to continue. Let's see how it goes as I move on to book two.

The audio narration is crisp, clean, and well done. I always enjoy hearing how people do characters of the opposite gender. King does just fine.

Mostly Loved it

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would, but only if they refused point blank to read the book, yet would consider the audio version.

What other book might you compare Moon Called to and why?

I really can't compare it to anything because I haven't read anything quite like it. I love this book and this series. I have read them a couple of times each.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed Lorelei's portrayal of Mercy Thompson but I am sad to say that most of the other characters all sounded too much the same. If Adam, Samuel and three other men without accents were in the same room it was really hard to tell which one was speaking until the "Samuel said" or "Adam growled" parts came. I would, however, still listen to the other Mercy audio books. It is a small thing that I can push past. I did find her ability to speak Zee very impressive though. There is random German thrown in and she spoke it very well.

Fun book

My daughter recommended this book BUT then she said, "it is my vampire porn". That ALMOST prevented me from reading this. It ended up to be a very good recommendation and NO porn.

Enjoyable but nothing spectacular

I can see why this is a popular urban fantasy with a spin off series. I enjoyed it and the world is interesting but it didn't wow me in any way. The narrator was very matter of fact in the narration and I didn't feel particularly involved in the situation. I liked that the main character seemed pretty normal but as you get through the book you can tell there's obviously something special about her. At least the book didn't come straight out to call her a special snow flake.

I will continue with the series since I'm intrigued and curious to see where the author is going with this series.

Werewolves, Vampires, Gremlins whats not to like.

This book sucked me in right away and I was already preparing to buy the remaining books in the series from the first couple of hours. The story is about Mercy helping out the local Alpha when his daughter gets kidnapped. This is a clean cut book, no cursing or sex. I personally would have liked more romance in the story, but I have a feeling it may come later. I love Mercy and there is good development with all the characters. I didn't pay attention to the narrator until she started talking and I was happy. I think Lorelei King is awesome and have always enjoyed her work.
