Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." (AudioFile)

"An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

love it, except Saphira's Voice

So grateful for this audiobook! I would go back and forth from reading the hardcover to this audio. The reader had a good performance, fit the story well. Until, I'm afraid it came to Saphira. He gave her this rough, manly voice that does not fit her at all. it was almost enough for me to pick another reader. But this was the only audio I could get. Again great reading, just wish he gave Saphira a more noble voice, not gruff. ( like... The movie was horrible, but I like the voice they gave her.)

Great Book, Poor Narration

I could have read this book aloud with a better performance. Gerard lacks emotion.

Absolutely love

I have read this book. Plus now I have gotten to listen to it. It is the first book, since I was younger, that I couldn’t put down. The story flows wonderfully, and so many exciting scenes. I recommend this book to anyone.

exceptional books

these books are about things I love, magic, dwarfs, elves. The story is well written, weaves a meaningful story and Mr. Doyle narrates it beautifully.

Nostalgic Experience

I absolutely loved this book, it was even better than I remember it being when I first read it years ago. The narration brought the story to life. I can't wait for book 2.

weird dragon voice.

love the book, story was great. I hated the fact that the dragon was a girl and the narrator gave her a mans voice, but all and all an easy listen

An ok introduction to a great story

I'm actually not that big a fan of Gerard Doyles performance. I think he talks way too fast, so I had to have the speed on 85% the whole book.

The book in itself is an ok introduction to an otherwise great series, but it shows that Paolini was only 15 when he wrote it. It is full of tropes everyone who has ever read a fantasy book has seen before.

It was a bit difficult to get into, but after a while I started to really enjoy it.

My favorite fantasy.

has one I picked up these books when they were publishing paper I had no issue tearing through chapter after chapter.I appreciate the range of voices the reader was able to produce but they have some very cast would lead to a richer story. nevertheless, I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the Inheritance series.
