Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

The humans have no magic and are hunted for sport, but that is about to change. War is coming.... The Sun Dragon spawned nine lesser dragons which devoured their parent for the power the elder possessed. Their peace was a fragile thing, but it had endured for seven years, mostly because the people of Darassus and the king of the Naor hordes believed his doom was foretold upon the edge of the great sword hung in the hall of champions. Unruly Naor clans might raid across the border, but the king himself would never lead his people to war so long as the blade remained in the hands of his enemies. But when squire Elenai’s aging uncovers evidence that the sword in their hall is a forgery, she’s forced to flee Darassus for her life, her only ally the reckless, disillusioned Kyrkenall.

Story
Seventy-five years ago, the dragons fell from the sky. We thought they were just meteorites - six terrifying explosions rang the world like a bell. When the dust settled, we went on with our lives as though nothing had happened. More than a decade later, five of the eggs hatched. The dragons that emerged were small and weak. They kept to the shadows, working in secret to persuade people to do their bidding, offering magic as payment and reward. Years passed...and still we didn't notice the evil growing in our midst.

This is a great background book for the Dragon Age game. Besides that, it was just a great novel in and of itself. You won't be disappointed even if you have never played the games. I recommend this book.

Much better than I thought
Wow, this was much better than I was expecting. Fans of the game would probably get the most of of it, but really, I don’t think you’d even need to be familiar with the games to enjoy this book.

Its honestly probably me.
I struggled with this book for years because I was hard to get over the difference in pronunciation of words between the games and the book. I finally made it through and it was a fairly good book.

Logaine is a hero!
This made me want to replay origins, which I can’t, because I don’t own a PS3 anymore. However, this is an incredible book. A perfect intro into the literary world of Thedas.
