Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Sherrilyn Kenyon debuts a sweeping new epic saga sure to appeal to her millions of fans!

Deadmen tell their tales....

To catch evil, it takes evil. Enter Devyl Bane - an ancient dark warlord returned to the human realm as one of the most notorious pirates in the New World. A man of many secrets, Bane makes a pact with Thorn - an immortal charged with securing the worst creations the ancient gods ever released into our world. Those powers have been imprisoned for eons behind enchanted gates...gates that are beginning to buckle. At Thorn's behest, Bane takes command of a crew of Deadmen, and together they are humanity's last hope to restore the gates and return the damned to their hell realms.

But things are never so simple. And one of Bane's biggest problems is the ship they sail upon. For the Sea Witch isn't just a vessel; she's also a woman born of an ancient people he wronged and who in turn wronged him during a centuries-long war between their two races - a woman who is also sister to their primary target. Now Marcelina, the Sea Witch, must choose. Either she remains loyal to her evil sister and almost-extinct race against Bane and his cause, and watches humanity fall, or she puts faith in an enemy who has already betrayed her. Her people over the totality of humanity - let's hope Bane can sway her favor.

Deadmen Walking is the first historical fantasy title in New York Times best-selling author Sherrilyn Kenyon's Deadman's Cross series. It is a tale of passion and loss, emotions that wound and heal...and ultimate redemption.

Overall good

I love Sherrilyn's writing style but add audio to it and wow it is awesome. I generally liked the book and story line but I admit I got lost in the characters. There seemed so many I could not keep up. I decided that I am going to just listen to the whole book again because a few times I had to go back and listen again because I had no clue who they were talking about. I liked the witty dry humor of the captain and over all it reminded me a bit of Pirates of the Caribbean. A story for hose rainy days but pay attention less you get lost. Happy reading or listening in this case.

Mostly enjoyed the book. Only the Villain was weak

The main characters and crew were rich and engaging. I am happy that the author decided to place the timeline for this series in the past so her modern tales do not have to squeeze in another apocalypse. Besides who does not love Pirates and Voudou. My only complains are want more of the tales and back stories on each crew member... But I know they will li
kely get a book of their own. So I only need to be patient. My real complaint is that the big bad villain and battle to defeat her was weak and half assed. Seriously, the monsters attacking the ship along the journey, had greater battle skills and scenes.

Awesome as Always with Sherrilyn Kenyon books!!

Where does Deadmen Walking rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It would rank among the top 10. Only because i do love Vane, Remi, Wren and a few other dark hunter/were hunter books.... and few others from other authors. This one for sure though i will need to re-listen to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I absolutely loved Marcelina and of course Devyl Bane but i really want more of Cameron (can't remember what else she was called) and the "mermaid" man :)

What about Holter Graham’s performance did you like?

I love all his performances!!!! he is absolutely wonderful with all the voices and makes all of the books he narrates that much more enjoyable.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did laugh and cry and cringe throughtout different parts of the book. Loved it!! really need to listen to it again.

Any additional comments?

There was just sooooo much going on throughout the entire book that one reading/listening just isn't enough. I am going to listen to this again really soon!!

A much anticipated book

I have been anxiously awaiting for this book to release and it did not disappoint. While it takes place in the dark hunter world, it is its own story and characters. The narration was peefect for this book. It was an outstanding beginning and I can't wait for the next one!

Not what I expected

Add a hell of a lot of good spots in this book the overall story power was not as adventurous and had as much action as some of her other earlier works maybe this series will get better with the next book I thought it would talk more about Thorne and how he acquired is Hale chasers

News side series

loved it! beginning of a new series dealing in the past around colonial times with pirates in the mix. Thorn gives the worst criminbala mankind has known a chance at redemption. Easier than it sounds when the Deadmen must face every concievable demon and ancient gods that are attempting to get the one thing that can open the gates of hell; a stone and the very blood of the archangel Michael's bloodline. A must for anyone that follows the Dark Hunter series.
