Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Sherrilyn Kenyon debuts a sweeping new epic saga sure to appeal to her millions of fans!

Deadmen tell their tales....

To catch evil, it takes evil. Enter Devyl Bane - an ancient dark warlord returned to the human realm as one of the most notorious pirates in the New World. A man of many secrets, Bane makes a pact with Thorn - an immortal charged with securing the worst creations the ancient gods ever released into our world. Those powers have been imprisoned for eons behind enchanted gates...gates that are beginning to buckle. At Thorn's behest, Bane takes command of a crew of Deadmen, and together they are humanity's last hope to restore the gates and return the damned to their hell realms.

But things are never so simple. And one of Bane's biggest problems is the ship they sail upon. For the Sea Witch isn't just a vessel; she's also a woman born of an ancient people he wronged and who in turn wronged him during a centuries-long war between their two races - a woman who is also sister to their primary target. Now Marcelina, the Sea Witch, must choose. Either she remains loyal to her evil sister and almost-extinct race against Bane and his cause, and watches humanity fall, or she puts faith in an enemy who has already betrayed her. Her people over the totality of humanity - let's hope Bane can sway her favor.

Deadmen Walking is the first historical fantasy title in New York Times best-selling author Sherrilyn Kenyon's Deadman's Cross series. It is a tale of passion and loss, emotions that wound and heal...and ultimate redemption.

"Mostly enjoyed the book. Only the Villain was weak"

The main characters and crew were rich and engaging. I am happy that the author decided to place the timeline for this series in the past so her modern tales do not have to squeeze in another apocalypse. Besides who does not love Pirates and Voudou. My only complains are want more of the tales and back stories on each crew member... But I know they will li
kely get a book of their own. So I only need to be patient. My real complaint is that the big bad villain and battle to defeat her was weak and half assed. Seriously, the monsters attacking the ship along the journey, had greater battle skills and scenes.

"A bit confusing, but getting back to old style."

A new spin off from the Dark Hunter series, going way back to the 1700’s. This time Thorne’s deadmen have risen to defeat the demons that have broken free from prison and are making havoc on the world. Of course, I liked it, it was a SK book after all. The two biggest downfalls were that there was so many new characters to get to know it was a bit overwhelming and the romance was a bit lacks. In fact, I wasn’t sure who the heroine was to be until about half way through the story, the second half gets a bit better. But the book has SK signature feel to the story and of course Holter Graham narrating so what’s not to like. There was a bit of a Pirates of the Caribbean feel to the overall story, but hey I liked that story too. This book was better than the last couple of books SK has put out and I think this series will get better as this world and characters are developed more.

"Awesome as Always with Sherrilyn Kenyon books!!"
Where does Deadmen Walking rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It would rank among the top 10. Only because i do love Vane, Remi, Wren and a few other dark hunter/were hunter books.... and few others from other authors. This one for sure though i will need to re-listen to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I absolutely loved Marcelina and of course Devyl Bane but i really want more of Cameron (can't remember what else she was called) and the "mermaid" man :)

What about Holter Graham’s performance did you like?

I love all his performances!!!! he is absolutely wonderful with all the voices and makes all of the books he narrates that much more enjoyable.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did laugh and cry and cringe throughtout different parts of the book. Loved it!! really need to listen to it again.

    Any additional comments?

There was just sooooo much going on throughout the entire book that one reading/listening just isn't enough. I am going to listen to this again really soon!!

    "Overall good"

I love Sherrilyn's writing style but add audio to it and wow it is awesome. I generally liked the book and story line but I admit I got lost in the characters. There seemed so many I could not keep up. I decided that I am going to just listen to the whole book again because a few times I had to go back and listen again because I had no clue who they were talking about. I liked the witty dry humor of the captain and over all it reminded me a bit of Pirates of the Caribbean. A story for hose rainy days but pay attention less you get lost. Happy reading or listening in this case.

    "A much anticipated book"

I have been anxiously awaiting for this book to release and it did not disappoint. While it takes place in the dark hunter world, it is its own story and characters. The narration was peefect for this book. It was an outstanding beginning and I can't wait for the next one!

    "Not what I expected"

Add a hell of a lot of good spots in this book the overall story power was not as adventurous and had as much action as some of her other earlier works maybe this series will get better with the next book I thought it would talk more about Thorne and how he acquired is Hale chasers

    "Very confusing..."
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes, Holter does an amazing job of bringing these characters to live with fantastic accents.

What was most disappointing about Sherrilyn Kenyon’s story?

The plot was very confusing. I had to start the book over again to try to see what was going on, and even then I was still a little fuzzy.

Which character – as performed by Holter Graham – was your favorite?

All of the pirates were fantastic, it's impossible to choose just one!

Do you think Deadmen Walking needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

She leaves it with a cliff hanger, so there will probably be another one. Can't seem to find it on audible though...

    Any additional comments?

I hope the other Dark Hunter novels are not as difficult to follow.

    "Pretty good"
Where does Deadmen Walking rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not my favorite Sherrilyn Kenyon book but descent enough. The story was kind of slow for me. It was hard to stay interested.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I love Thorn, so am always pleased to know more about him.

What about Holter Graham’s performance did you like?

Holter Graham is one of the best! He always does an amazing job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Not really.

    Any additional comments?

Need a full book about Thorn and Jaden.

"love! Sherrilyn Kenyon but she gets a complicated "

Love the dark Hunter series even Achron's story made me tear up that's how good of a writer she is. This story just liked the Chronicles of Nick she tries to put too many aspects about different factions makes it a little confusing.
