Publisher's summary

They call me Zen-man, the cool-headed one, the protector. I keep an eye out for everyone, take them in, find them homes. They think I’m the calm and collected one, the self-assured one, the one who knows the way. They think they see me. They think they know me.

But they’re all wrong, because inside I’m broken. I have a jagged hole in my soul I can’t fix, a festering blackness. I’ve been to the pits of hell, and nobody comes back unscathed. Life in foster care fucked me up, and now a thread is all that’s holding me together.

So I sleep around and never date, keeping chicks away. One day I’ll snap, and when I do, there’s no telling who I might take down with me.

All the same, there’s this one girl who won’t be scared away. Dakota. She’s hot, and I won’t deny I want her. But she keeps coming back, pushing me, trying to get me to talk, to open up to her.

She has no idea she’s playing with fire. When the demons come, she’d better be far away from me, just like everyone else.

Stand-alone novel. No cliff-hanger. Warning: this book contains graphic language, sex, and violence. Mature listeners only. Not intended for young listeners.

Bonus! Includes What I Want for Christmas, a Zane and Dakota short story.

Love this series

I absolutely love the Inked Brothers series. Thoroughly enjoy it and I love seeing men vulnerable too. They are not always the strongest and they need that one woman that can hold it all together for them. The queen behind them and that is everything.

A little on the darker side

This is a bit of a darker romance but told with some hope. I really love the whole group of characters and how they've made a found family with each other. Narration is done well.

Okay series...but....

I didn't dislike the series, but I did not exactly love it either. The thing that annoyed me mostly is the age of all these characters.
Every single one is under age for what is IMO logical in the storylines.
Storylines that began '4 or 5 years ago' when characters were 14 or 15 and then to 'now' when they are barely 20.
I am in no way saying that it isn't possible for some things to have happened as written - but to me it would be much easier to swallow if this group of friends were all 25 or so in the 'now'.
Also, no tattoo artist is going to be 18 or 19 and running his own shop. This is something that takes years of apprenticeship to learn and become licences for. (Fully tatted here...so trust me)

Narration was decent, but again these voices are NOT 19 or 20.

Overall if you can suspend your disbelief over parts it isn't a waste of time or credits.

A Little Disappointed

Overall I thought it was a good story but it could have been better. We don't know anything about Zane's past except he was in foster care and he was abused/attacked. There were very little details about what happened to him and I just found that unfinished.

You saw glimpses as to what happened but the story was incomplete, was it other foster kids, foster parents. He said someone tried to drown him, was it after the burns or was he set on fire. Were these 2 different instances, I also understand that he couldn't remember everything, but then it seems as if somewhere in his story he could have remembered so he could truly move on. Other than that large piece of the puzzle I enjoyed the story and will listen to the others at some point.

great story, but a rough storyline

This was a great story from beginning to end. The characters were well written and unfortunately the story line was believable. the pain they both suffered w a s astounding. it was good to know that all of the prior characters were involved in this book too.

18-19 yr olds trying to find themselves

3rd in the series, and the best so far, this story is about the central figure in the series- Zane. He helps everyone but himself. As a very talented young tattoo artist he has inked a number of needy friends at the shop where they hang out- befittingly named “Damage Control”. Zane has had a horrible childhood full of abuse due major failures in the foster system. He needs serious therapy but tragically there seems to be no government support, so he has developed his own community support for a group of late teens trying to mature into adults. This story also includes a very steamy romance with Dakota, a young punk rocker sitting graphic design. She has her own triggers resulting from a near death experience when younger. The story is engaging but difficult due to the ages of these kids. Even adding a few years to them would have helped. Also while the narration was top notch, Anna Riordan was somewhat believable but Sebastian York was not. They both have considerable acting skills but are just to mature and smooth for these roles. At least each set of characters in the series is narrated by someone different. An interesting plot but too dark and graphic though somewhat cautionary for teens and very sad and poignant for adults though it does have some happy resolutions. This one is with the credit if you like this type of genre.
