Publisher's Summary

Owen Christiansen has been in a downward spiral since an injury ended his NHL career. But a job on an Alaskan crabbing boat offers a fresh start and maybe even a shot at romance with Elise "Scotty" McFlynn, the captain's daughter.

Used to being one of the guys, to never relying on anyone, Scotty doesn't believe in happily ever after - especially with someone like Owen. Her instinct is confirmed when Casper Christiansen arrives to drag his prodigal brother home, bringing with him a truckload of family drama - and, even worse, the news that Casper is wanted for questioning in connection to a crime back in Minnesota. But Owen is more than the sum of his mistakes, a truth both he and Scotty discover when she escorts both brothers to Deep Haven as part of her new job on the Anchorage police force. Thrust into an unfamiliar world of family, faith, and fresh starts, Scotty begins to see potential for a happy ending if she's brave enough to embrace it.

    "A Christiansen Family Series Marathon"

I listened to this entire series this week. A real family experience. God meeting each person individually and drawing them to him with problems, anger issues, adventures, and self imposed reasons not to let God in. Our plans versus Gods plans and Faith to bring them to pass The stories and narrators completely drew me in. I didn't want there to be an ending. Take a leap and see God move in this big rambunctious family. You will be glad you did!

    "Just ok"

This book started off great. The deep sea fishing accident hooked me right away. I started off liking the characters and Susan May Warren's writing style is beautiful. Her descriptions are wonderful. But once the characters, Scotty and Owen went to Owen's home town--that's where it fell apart for me. Being that Owen and his brother, Casper espoused to be Christians, I was completely frustrated when over and over again they spoke out of both sides of their mouths. They talk about "having faith" but then form a plot for one to run away from the law. At the end, they both have their own realizations that they were wrong, but for me, there wasn't a strong enough admission that their actions had been against God, not just each other.

Scotty was the most sensible, but from the beginning she said she didn't trust God, nor had she ever given her life to Him. I kept waiting for that to change, but it never did. At the end, she made one statement, "have a little faith," and she wasn't referring to God. She was referring to Owen trusting in her capabilities as a detective. That was the extent of her coming around. Owen has a moment of repentance, but thinks nothing of the fact that he's ready to marry a woman who still hadn't committed her life to Christ. This is Christian romance, so I thought there'd at least be that. The dysfunction of the family is such that right and wrong become convoluted throughout the entire thing. Sometimes it felt like there was conflict, just for conflict sake, and I found myself rolling my eyes at some of the things the characters did. The epilogue didn't tie up the story of the main characters. It's all about a minor character getting a puppy. Maybe it was tying up the larger plot of the series, but I hadn't read the other books, so I'm not sure.

All that to say, I didn't enjoy the book as much as I hoped. I will still read more of Susan May Warren. Like I said earlier, she has a lovely writing style. This book just wasn't for me.

"Adventure! Imperfect people, Family, Faith & Love!"

Adventure, Imperfect people, Family, Faith & Love! Hang on to your spot, this is going to be an adventurous family, love filled ride. What's going to happen next? Who's going to survive? Who's not? Susan May Warren does it again and again with the Christiansen family stories. You will not be able to put this down. I bought and read the book last year. Then I had to reread it, so I also got it on Audible. It's so good you really want to read or hear it again, and again.
