Publisher's summary

I had a simple life. I worked two jobs, made ends meet, and hung out with my mom and twin brother. The other part of my life was about avoiding him, but when SWAT raided my boyfriend's home, that was the last straw. The boyfriend got tossed, and to help me keep busy, my brother talked me into joining their old band again. I have to be honest, though; it wasn't a hard sell.

Playing drums was in my blood. I used to be addicted, and that craving hadn't been satisfied in three long years. The only problem was their lead singer. The drums might not have been the only thing I was addicted to. I think I was still addicted to him, too.

Contains mature themes.

Sound….

The female narrator had some background noise and it was very annoying and made it hard to focus and hear the story…. I am hoping for a refund…

SLAP SLAP ROCK GOD

I want to strangle Luke from the moment the male narrator opens his mouth. He has to be the slowest pussy that ever existed. He never speaks up against the addict cousin constantly putting them all in danger and verbally abusing the supposed "Love of his life" but, he kicks her out of the band without a backwards glance. I just wanted him to come back to her being gone. He didn't really have to do shit to earn her. The book is great and well written. The characters are obviously well developed for me to be so fuckin angry at the so called "hero".

I loved this story.

I did not like the narration. It really hurt the story, but I loved the love between the two main characters. I cried buckets over this story. I should clarify. I didn’t like the female narration.

Can't Get Enough

Would you consider the audio edition of Sustain to be better than the print version?

I have always loved audio books and love how they really take the book to another level. When you get an awesome performer you will never go wrong!

Have you listened to any of Lidia Dornet and Nelson Hobbs ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this is my first time listening to her.

Any additional comments?

I can't get enough of Tijan's books and am a HUGE fan of her audiobooks. I always read the books first and than listen to them as soon as they come out.

Luke is dreamy

I liked this story most of the time but there are some parts that drove me crazy. Emerson drove me nuts with how mean he constantly was to Bri but she kept on helping him when he needed it even though he was a jerk. I couldn’t believe her brother never stopped him from speaking to her that way either. At times we were supposed to believe that Bri was so naive that she didn’t know who Elijah really was and that you would not tell the man you thought was your best friend a secret you carried around for three years, really? I also felt we did not get an answer to why she ran to Eli and stated dating him three years ago. With the things I did not like out of the way, I really enjoyed this story when Bri and Luke were together. I would have loved more time with this so called main couple. I did like when Braden was being supportive to Bri and when Bri was a beast on the drums. This was not near as good as her other books but I still did like it.

Secrets And Music

Finally, a story that has a strong independent female character. Sex, drugs, and rock n roll is the theme of this story, along with troubled pasts and presents. Great storyline as the characters overcome their ghosts and struggles. The narrators do a good job.

The storyline was great.

I liked the overall storyline of this book. But I didn’t like how it abruptly ended. This is my second TIJAN book, I’ve previously read the broken and screwed duet, and maybe this is just how she writes. But I feel like it’s almost left on a cliff or like it’s set up for a second book.

What I didn’t really like was mostly about the audio and not the story itself. At a lot of points it sounded as if the audio was a recording of a recording. It had a lot of echo to it. I’m not really sure how else to explain it, but the quality of the recording was not the best. I also didn’t feel as if Luke’s characters voice fit him. He did Elijah’s voice better than Luke’s. Again this is just my opinion.

Crazy rockstar life!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 🙂😮😥😤

The heroine: Brielle - when SWAT busts into her boyfriend Elijah’s place while they were in bed and took them into custody for dealing drugs, she drops him like a hot potato. Bri ends up re-joining the band “Braelle” she founded with her brother Braden. She had put the band behind her three years ago when something happened to her best friend Luke and she couldn’t deal with it.

The Anti-Hero: Luke - He grew up living next door to Brielle and they were best friends. He used to climb in her bedroom window and sleep with her when things got tough at home. Three years ago they admitted they loved each other and the next day something happened and she left him. He is the lead singer of Braelle and still has feelings for Bri.

The Story: The band consists of Luke, Braden and Emerson (Bri’s cousin who has hated her for three years since she started dating Elijah, who was his best friend). They all agree that Bri can rejoin the band, but things aren’t easy for any of them.

This was a crazy ride and a bit of a messy plot. There were side storylines about Braden sleeping with a bunch of different groupies including the manager of the bar the band plays at, Elijah and his drug business and some rival drug dealers, Emerson and his drug problem and his hatred of Bri and lastly about the secret Bri has been keeping from Luke.

The story takes some bad turns and I didn’t really like the way it was handled when Bri’s secret came out. I usually love Tijan’s work but this was a bit so-so in my opinion. I did like the characters, just not the sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll themes, I guess. Though I do like rockstar romances, this was just a bit to depressing for my tastes.

The book was told mostly from Brielle’s point of view, but there were some chapters told from Luke’s as well. The narration was done in dual narration, by Lidia Dornet and Nelson Hobbs. They do a good job, though I like duet narration a lot better, where the male narrator does all the male parts and the female narrator does all the female parts no matter who’s POV the chapter is in.
