Publisher's summary

I have loved Channing Monroe all my life.

In first grade, he asked for my Trapper Keeper.

I hit him in the head with it.

Third grade, we were best friends. We kissed in seventh grade.

In eighth grade, he turned into a bad boy and the rest was a tumultuous storm.

Growing up, the problem was never love for us. Bad times. Good times. There were times when I felt our love in every inch of my body, vibrating, making me feel like it could bring me back to life.

The problem was us.

The problem is that we're living in two different worlds now. Fallen Crest and its millionaires for me. Roussou and their criminals for him. I was thriving in mine and he was running his.

But... But there were nights I felt we couldn't be further apart than we were, and there were nights I felt we shared the same heartbeat.

When was it time?

When was it time to either sacrifice, make a change, or walk away from the boy I grew up with?

Lame Gang

The description and reviews are amazing so how could I not purchase!?

Struggled to make it a quarter of the way thru - Channing (while a great performance and beautiful voice) was way too old of a voice for this.

While I could get past that, the lame attempt to talk about "gangs/crews" was laughable. The Jets and the Sharks breaking in to dance had more street believability.

Hard pass for me.

What Only Love Can Do

Damaged girl grows up in crummy household environment, not feelin' the love. Damaged boy has crummy household, too. No love there. But he finds damaged girl in first grade and latches onto her like his life depends on it. In truth, it probably did. These two, Heather and Channing, sure didn't have much going for them in their early years. They had to claw their way up on their own, and figure out what life and love was all about without any good role models.

But somehow they clung to each other like driftwood from the Titanic and managed to make their own way. It was at times turbulent, messy, insane, beautiful, maddening, and steamy. They must find within themselves and each other the strength and courage they need to grow well beyond their history and become beautiful people capable of loving and caring for others. Fabulous story of an incredible journey and an amazing love.

Incredible

This book was truly amazing. I couldn’t stop listening. It had me on the edge of my seat most of the time. It had me feeling all of the emotions. It was wonderful. I didn’t want it to end.

Snoooze fest

I read hundreds of books and this was a total snooze. Lame gang, lame characters. I can’t figure out the 5 star reviews.

Hard to like or respect the characters

I just couldn’t get into it. I ended up just being sick of the characters, there’s no real growth from the characters. Female lead resigns herself to just being with male lead as his toxic self. And is shitty to her brother. Male lead made a decision to stop being his toxic self to be a “better man”, but still leaves her hanging for 3 days with no communication - continuing his pattern of shitty behavior.

Glad to see Heather and Channing settled

Finally! I’m glad to finally see Heather and Channing all in and living happily ever after. I worried about reading this book only because in Sam and Mason’s book, Heather and Channing’s relationship seemed rocky. Let’s just say there was more to the story, and it was worth finally reading the book focused on it.

Good story

This might be my least favourite Tijan book, but it was still alright. I just found some of it a little boring myself. There just wasn’t a whole lot of excitement throughout, in my opinion.
The narrators did a great job though!
I probably wouldn’t re-read/listen to this one again, but I’m still considering listening to Crew sometime in the future! (MMC little sister’s book)

Not My Favorite

I've read several books by Tijan and usually liked them. Not this one, though. The characters were rough, hardened and unlikable. The story was basically the same bad boy feels the need to leave girl he loves trope over and over again. There were so many characters, I had no idea who was who or connected to who or what the purpose of their presence in the book was. The whole Crew/Gang thing is completely unrealistic unless you're talking about the seediest sections of society. I have not read the Fallen Crest series and I suspect that in order to like this book, you had to get the background there. At some point in this book, I started wondering if someone else was writing it in some kind of fan fiction way. Obviously, this was no my favorite.
