Publisher's Summary

From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author, Jana DeLeon, the third book in the Ghost-in-Law mystery/romance series.

Family can be the death of you.…

Who killed Helena Henry? The shorter list may be who didn’t want her dead. Psychic Raissa Bordeaux thought she’d left her former life behind, hidden away in her eclectic shop in the French Quarter. But when a child is kidnapped and Helena Henry appears, Raissa risks her true identity by offering the police help with the case. New Orleans Detective Zach Blanchard doesn’t believe in psychic hooey and is certain Raissa didn’t get her facts about the case from a crystal ball. He suspects her of something besides being the most intriguing and attractive woman he’s ever come across. But when Raissa’s secrets put her in danger, can Zach convince her to trust him with the truth before it’s too late?

Fabulous series!!!

I am still loving this series! This is the third book and this time we get to be front row for Raissa's HEA. I was ready for this after the mystery about her in the end of the last book.

Turns out Raissa is all kinds of awesome!! I am talking seriously cool hacker super spy type fantastic! I think she is my fav heroine so far in the series!

Zach is her match as a yummy detective. Love their banter!! Raissa is a very naughty girl, in all the most fun ways! I had a great time reading their dynamic relationship!

This is a mixed narrative, so you get both the leads POV alternately. There are also bits from the supporting cast and the bad guy.

This is different from most cozy mysteries, it has a large romance quotient and that bedroom door is wide open! Not as much detail as an erotic read, but far from squeaky clean.

The mystery has many levels, it is so strange how everything is so connected. But it is a cozy, so you go with it.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Johanna Parker, who has a wonderful read. She keeps the southern accents light, for the most part. I love the swift pace to her read and the energy she brings to the words. All the voices have been distinct and were consistent throughout the book. She has been a delight throughout the series!

I was a little upset that Hank does not get his own HEA book, but rather a side romance in this book. Boo, he has worked hard to redeem himself and deserved at least a novella.

Disclosure - I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts opinions and ratings are my own.

Another hit from Jana DeLeon and Johanna Parker

so much fun! easy to listen to, a few twists and surprises. for me it was worth the credit.
Ms. DeLeon, thank you for keeping the love scenes tame and the language as clean as most evening TV shows!

Harebrained Plot

Though I am generally a fan of this series this entry was just too unbelievable. Yes, there is a ghost, and I can suspend belief for that, but the plot was just sub par. The love at first sight seems to be getting old. This one had the added attraction of a heroine who had been in hiding and avoiding romantic entanglements suddenly decide to jump into bed with the first totally inappropriate guy who comes along (not to mention she just happened to have a black negligee with her).
The mystery was obvious where it was going; and it was so ridiculous. The characters were not fleshed out, so this is not a stand alone. Having read the first two in the series and liking the characters is what saved this from being totally unacceptable. The ghost who the series is named for is not up to her usual hilarious antics.
To sum up, the romance seemed a bit forced, the mystery was beyond ridiculous, and the humor was for the most part missing. The formula may be wearing thin for me.

Really Great Series

I have really enjoyed the first 3 books in this series. Hopefully, book 4 will be in keeping with the classic story line as it has been.

Raissa gets in trouble with a child kidnapping

Miss Julia Stands her Ground is another fun addition to Ann B. Ross’s delightful series. Hazel Marie has settled in as part of the family, with Miss Julia’s working hard to get Hazel Marie and Little Lloyd accepted by the members of the church community. Then Sam, Miss Julia’s husband, hears from the cousin of Hazel Marie who kidnapped Little Lloyd in the first book. Brother Vernon Puckett, a self-styled preacher, has come up with claims that Little Lloyd is not the son of Miss Julia’s late husband but rather another man she was seeing at the same time. Determined not to allow Brother Vernon Puckett from getting his way, Miss Julia and Sam work to find the truth and keep Little Lloyd from losing his inheritance.

This sweet series shows the depth of life and of the way people in small town America think and function.

Cynthia Darlow does a delightful job narrating this audiobook and helping this series become true to life. Her voices seem realistic.

I recommend Miss Julia Stands her Ground. The site line is interesting and the characters recognizable. I give this book four stars.

it was fun a lot like a cozy mystery

except for one sex scene this would have made a great cozy mystery. Luckily I could fast forward in about 3 minutes past the graphic sex scenes. silly story but cute.

Hilarious read

What made the experience of listening to Showdown in Mudbug the most enjoyable?

The whole book was enjoyable. I have recently discovered this series and am now making my way through them all. The characters are funny and interesting.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Showdown in Mudbug?

The incident with the hot dogs was very funny and I found myself laughing out loud which is not good if you are listening on your iPod in a public space.

Which character – as performed by Johanna Parker – was your favourite?

Oh definitely Helena

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh in so many places but it also has its sad moments too

Any additional comments?

you can judge my satisfaction with this book and indeed the whole series by the fact that I have bought the first four books in this series and will buy the rest in the very near future
