About this listen

It was a day like any other day for Marina Trahan…until she caught her husband in bed with another woman. Before that eye-opening wake-up call, Marina would have described her life as average or uneventful, maybe even boring. But now, chaos and confusion reign supreme. She’d expected to slide through midlife with her unwanted extra pounds, chin hair, and hot flashes and move somewhat gracefully into elastic waist pants and having no verbal filter. But with a wayward husband, a high-maintenance daughter, a lackluster career, and a crazy mother all weighing her down, Marina is ready to wave the white flag of surrender.

Then an intriguing stranger named Alexios shows up out of nowhere and insists she is descended from a goddess and is the only person who can save the world from certain destruction. She has roughly a week to do it. Solving a centuries-old mystery seems like a more interesting proposition than the other situations Marina is facing, so she accepts his challenge. But her search for a magical item of power reveals far more about Marina than she ever knew. Maybe enough to save the world. And even herself.

Jana DeLeon once again has written a wonderful storyline, the characters are well developed and quickly become more like people you know rather than mere characters.
Hollis McCarthy, as always, gave an outstanding performance as she breathed life into the storyline and gave each character their own distinct voice.
This book/audiobook leaves you wanting more and I hope a follow up is to follow.
I highly recommend this to cozy mystery fans.

Who would have thought I’d go for a Greek Demi god? Jana is a talented writer and this story doesn’t disappoint. When is 2 going to be available?

Love Jana’s stories.

Jana Deleon stories are my go to books when I need to relax and laugh out loud, with smiles in between. What I really love are the characters she creates that you care about...and that somehow prompt self - reflection in the middle of some zany story line. Can't wait to see more stories in this collection.

Fun Fun Fun...and really wonderful characters!

I think Jana Deleon is my new favorite author! I read all the miss fortune series and was afraid that any other books from this author would all feel the same just with different names characters but this book didn’t disappoint! I feel like I know everyone personally and am from small town LA even though I’ve never been! Just when I thought I knew how this was going to end I was pleasantly surprised at how wrong I was!

Great story, great characters, great narration

I love Jana’s books about Mudbug and Sinful and New Orleans. The fantasy aspects of the Mudbug and Wrong Side of Forty are whimsical and fun, but they also bring depth to the stories. I’ve been hoping for a sequel to this book for years.

I love Jana!

Jana Deleon wrote an awesome story based in Louisiana. The authors metafor of finding purpose via the ring was well done.

Different but we'll done

It was cute, real and empowering. I’m not a fan of supernatural fiction but I LOVE this author so I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did!

Loved it!

The new characters Marina and Halcyon are fun ladies. I was surprised the book ended so abruptly. Though this really leaves me waiting for the next novel in this series.
