Publisher's Summary

Things have gotten downright smoldering in Cotton Creek. The oil boom has the town bursting at the seams, and has Cody and Hannah run ragged with the bar being packed every night. Leave it to their mama to come up with a solution.

Stella talks to her sister, who, in turn, manipulates her son, Cade to go to Cotton Creek and help his cousins out. After all, he has nothing really on his plate. He just sold a casino in Atlantic City and has no idea what he wants to do next.

Cade isn't keen on the idea, but his mother traps him with the old "family helps family" thing so to Cotton Creek he goes. What were the odds that a month after he arrives, Roxie Ellis' 1957 T-bird would break down just outside of Cotton Creek and she'd be needing a job to make enough to effect repairs?

Gambler's luck? Maybe. Whatever the case, sparks fly at first glance and before you can call red on a roulette wheel, Cade and Roxie are neck deep in what is surely the most erotic bet of their lives.

The problem is, the bet becomes a whole lot more serious than either of them plan and soon Cade is Playing for Keeps.

Love is in the Air

This was an action-packed, feel-good romance. Lots of HEAs all around. Not 1 but 2 new girls find their way to Cotton Creek and nab them some single hotties…. AND….Cooper and Hannah advance… AND….. We finally get to see what kind of guy makes Cody weak in the knees….. AND…. JOE!!

J. Scott Bennett is the perfect choice for this series. He does an excellent job with all the voices and really brings the text to life.

THOUGHT THERE WAS GOING TO BE A TRIPLE+ WEDDING

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

This is the first book from this series I've listened to and it works well as a stand-alone. There were a few references from other books but they weren't crucial. The narration was done well but I thought Cade's voice was a bit too "old."
It's a country sweet romance that has every character in some stage of relationship. Must be something in the water!

Gets a solid Thumb Up... the other thumb is wavering, wanting more grit.

Just gets better

Have you listened to any of J. Scott Bennett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I must say that I only discovered J.S Bennett via this series, and he has made me fall in love with every book. Every book in this series just gets better, J.S does such an amazing job narrating these books that I must finished them in one sitting. As always beautifully written by Ciana Stone, and I look forward to the next release on audio.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Several LOL moment in this book, must like in all the others

Loved The Cover

I got this book via audiobook boom. The cover said it all for me. I loved seeing an older gentleman who looked that good even if it was airbrushed. Not saying that it was but even if. The one negative about the whole story for me was the amount of cussing in the story. but I loved the fact that two people pass middle age came together as a first time HEA for both. She was running from her past but only wanted a home and family and he was just tired of the same old song and dance and wanted a home and family. They arrive in Cross Creek at about the same time. their interaction is swoon worthy. I liked that the story also included the other secondary characters and was presented so that even though I had not listened to the other stories I understood their role in this story. The narrator was the perfect one for this book. I love listening to him when he does westerns and he did very well with this Texas-based story. Cade was indeed playing for keeps.

Hot and sexy country romance

I really like this series. I never thought I would be into a cowboy-country romance series, but this one has really interesting characters. Each book focuses on particular people from the town of Cotton Creek and this particular book centers on the relationship between Cade and Roxie. I love that the female characters are really strong and tough, the men are "manly", and it seems like these could all be real people. The romance is hot and sexy, but there are also sweet and funny moments as well. The eavesdropping, gossip-mongering, little old ladies in the story add a touch of humor and levity to the book.

I listened to the Audible audio edition of this book narrated by J. Scott Bennett. I have loved everything that I have heard him narrate (and I've listened to quite a few as I jump on anything I see his name on). He gives each character a unique voice, so you don't have a hard time following which character is doing the talking. I can't say enough good things about his narrations.

If you like sexy country romances, I highly recommend this book (or any others in the series).

Great Book

Cade has no permanent home, went to Cotton Creek to help family and Roxie fell in his lap. This book isn't just a focus on Cade and Roxie, there is a lot going on in this small town and the Honky Tonk is in the middle of it all. Great town, hot cowboys and a bit of suspense.

Steamy

I did not read the other books in this series so I came in at a disadvantage. But the characters where great , story steamy and likable. Liked the narrator. I received this book at no charge in exchange for an honest review. Would be interested in reading the others in the series I missed.

That cover-yum! Love the Honky Tonk Angels series!

Another great addition to the Honky Tonk Angels series. The narration was well done, J.S. Bennett’s female voices are getting better, and he has mastered the southern cowboy male voice.

First, let’s start with that cover – oh my! It’s rare these days when the cover model actually looks like the character described in the book. It’s refreshing to have a contemporary romance involve adult characters. There are so many new adult stories on the market these days.

This story introduces us to Cade, a cousin of Hannah and Cody who run the Honky Tonk Angels bar. Cade is restless after selling his casino, so he agrees to move to Cotton Creek to manage the bar and give Hannah and Cody some much needed help.

Soon, best friends Dini and Roxie decide to ditch Las Vegas and hit the road. Their car breaks down just outside Cotton Creek, so they end up in town looking for work to pay for the car repairs. As soon as Cade and Roxie meet, there are sparks of immediate attraction, but Roxie just wants to get her car fixed and get out of town. Cade makes a bet with her, a very naughty bet, gambling on keeping her around for a while. He also hires her to work at the bar.

Dini seems to be settling in and is content to make a life in Cotton Creek. Roxie wants to keep moving. Turns out Roxie is hiding some big secrets, ones that even Dini does not know. Cade continues to pursue Roxie and helps her reveal and deal with those secrets. Coming to a nice ending to their story.

There is a big surprise event near the end involving several other characters. This event involves a special character that has appeared in each of the books. He makes these books just a little different and a little more special than your typical cowboy romance.

Parts of the story continue from the previous books in the series, so there are many familiar characters. The old power struggle revolving around the Cotton Creek Energy Company and the spurned fathers returns with an interesting conclusion at the end of the book.

I really enjoyed the story as the relationships grew and developed. My only complaint is that the book is short and the ending seemed to wrap up very quickly.

Great addition to the series

Any additional comments?

Another great addition to the series. As always though it was a very entertaining and enjoyable story. More fun and HEA's. Each story is like coming back and visiting old friends. There is more than one romance brewing in this book. It really kept the story moving.

There seemed to be a lot more going on this time around. Cade and Roxie are the main center of attention couple for this installment. There is also a surprise regarding "the Fathers". JOE… makes an appearance. And Cody has made a choice. A lot is happening in Cotton Creek.

J Scott Bennett does another great job with the narration. As usual. Nice voice. Clearly spoken with a smooth even pace. Great character voices. He just has a way of bringing the characters to life. Always very enjoyable.

Gotta love those cowboys!

first, that cover is very sexy! 2nd J. Scott Bennet sounds amazing. 3rd, although there were more than one couple falling for each other and it got a little confusing I still enjoyed it. I thought it was funny and sexy and I have realized I really want a cowboy!

A little lacking but still important in the series

While Roxy and Cade' s story is sweet, it lacks substance. But that is alright because this series has a lot of interesting characters who more than flit through the books. There are references to incidents in previous books and the slow development towards future romances and stories. Playing for Keeps definitely uses the other characters and their stories to bulk up the plot, including what may be important events effecting the community.

That said, I am looking forward to the next book in the series because it is hard not to like, and therefore commit, to the characters and community in this series.
