Kind of a let down.

Well, maybe I'm missing something. It has all the ingredients to make a good listen but really fell short for me and I'm sorry for that. SPOILERS: The h/h relationship didn't seem to have much depth and development. I didn't experience the journey. The ex wife was a good twist but again no journey or depth. The mystery plot was a good idea but again, no depth or development. The crimes were pretty whack but Kenna was running around more worried about what she was wearing to the derby and giving interviews on tv when she is supposed to be hiding out. A couple months in and she still hasn't pressed charges and when she finally sees her ex boyfriend it's like no big deal. He walks away.

As for the narrator, he has a wonderful voice but heads so fast through everything that it tends to de-dramatize everything. That's not too say I like a narrator to talk so slow that I fall asleep but to read so fast that I can't even feel the moment may have been a big part of what I feel was lacking.

I gave it 3 stars for effort but 2 stars may have been enough. Sorry. I just had high hopes. It got a lot of good reviews on amazon.

Nothing special

In my opinion there's nothing to make this book stand out. It's not one that I wanted to listen to in one sitting. I like to be swept into a story and I don't have to have the hot sexy scenes to enjoy a book, but this one is dull and there's NO passion at all. The sexual scenes are alluded to. I didn't like it at all the one and only time the characters make love it's practically a kiss then the next day. The story had allot of things going on but theres no excitement in it for me. There's a few humorous parts to the book but not enough to make it good.

I wouldn't use my credit on this book and to be totally honest I wouldn't want this one on sale either.

5 Bluegrass State of Mind Stars

I read this book back in 2014, and this town has stuck with me. So I had to do a re-read to see if I liked it as much as I remembered and I have to say I liked it even more.

McKenna is so down to earth, and I love that she is soo a city girl but she adapts to country life without a hick up.
She had to leave the city, and is on the run as is her best friend Danielle they have seen somethings that put them in danger.

I loved the tension and the mystery of this book, keeps you hooked.
I am a Will fan who wouldn’t be he is just lush.

The whole community take McKenna in, not with open arms she does have to prove herself. But once she does the whole town becomes her friend. I can’t even tell you how great it is to read a book that is just a sweet all round romance.

I loved it and I can’t wait to continue the series <3

I forgot how much I love Eric G. Doves narration, he does voice so well, From men & women to old ladies!! I can’t tell you how great it is. You have to listen for yourself.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Promising premise....terrible execution

I was just looking for a fun, easy, light-hearted listen. instead, this is quite possibly the worst book I've listened to...ever. the story is full of unbelievable characters, gaping plot holes, and a lack of research that leaves me shaking my head. (If you give a main character a career, have at least SOME idea of what it actually looks like). Not to mention the droning on and on about irrelevant details about clothes and food and the like. I seriously wondered on several occasions whether the author just forgot that there was a plot. I finished.... but only because I kept thinking it had to get better. I will not be finishing the series despite not closing the loop on the most interesting part of the plot.

Loved it!

Where does Bluegrass State of Mind rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At the top.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the whole story. Kathleen Brooks writes wonderful books.

What does Eric Dove bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice really embraced the light Southern drawl that you hear in KY. I was also impressed that he didn't make me cringe when he did the women's voices. Some times men doing women's voices are hard to take. This wasn't the case here.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES! I usually listen to audio books while working in the yard or exercising. It made me not want to stop.

Disappointing Story - Fair Narration

Bluegrass State of Mind is a really great title, but the story was disappointing. The reviews, for the most part were quite positive, which leaves me to question the reading experience of some of the reviewers. More often than not, the reviews are most helpful when making a decision to buy, so I was surprised by this listen.

Do some of you remember The Wonderful World of Disney, where the narrator was needed to tell the story because their audience was comprised primarily of children? That seemed to be this author's style of writing for Bluegrass. The characters and plot could have been amazing, should have been amazing, but they weren't. I think that there was background information overload...too much explanation and background information narrated instead of the story being developed and told by the characters themselves.

Eric Dove has a wonderful voice, and a good southern accent, although he seems to race through his narration. A great narrator lends his or her voice to the characters and brings the author's words to life for their audience. Tempo is as important as inflection.

I would not listen to Bluegrass State of Mind again, and would not be able to recommend it as credit worthy. ;(

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SERIES

I absolutely loved this book!!! This is the first book of the Bluegrass series written Kathleen Brooks, who is a phenomenal writer. The story begins with McKenna Mason, an attorney from the big city of New York, who gets into serious trouble with some dangerous powerful men who have no respect for a woman. McKenna flees the big city and comes face to face with her first love, Will Ashton. What follows is a wonderful story full of danger, mystery, intrigue, comedy, love, family values, and a great out-pouring of support for each other. You will laugh and cry, fear for their lives, and be completely taken in by the amazing way Kathleen Brooks spins her beautiful stories.
You will absolutely fall in love with the Blue Grass series and the wonderful people of Keenston! Take my word for it you will be hooked on this series and will rush back to buy the next 3 books in this series!!

Listening to the book, even after I had already read the book was still wonderful! I heard things I did not remember from the book. This is a whole new wonderful world for me!!

Just Plain Good

Love the character's and the story line in this book. Eric Dove did and excellent job as the narrator. Does leave you hanging and waiting for the next book. As for me I have already gone out and bought it in paperback. What can I say, couldn't wait. Makes me want to move to this small protective town in Kentucky. What a kick the towns people are. I laughed until I cried at a lot of parts, in both of the book's I've read so far. Can't wait to get my hand's on the next one done in audio. if you are looking for a lot of sex don't buy this book. But if you are looking for a good story go for it!!
