This short story is in the Night Huntress series but its not about Cat and Bones. Its about one of the vampires Bones sired, Chance. Bones asks Chance to step in and help one of his friends's grandchildren and Chance took that chance and helped out... He ended up meeting a lovely lady and helped her out of her problems with some mafia guys caused by her brother.
I enjoyed this short story and finally it came as an audiobook. Was waiting for it and the other short stories for a while now.

Jeaniene Frost entices her readers with every moment spent delving into the intrigue and emotion filling her books. Once I start reading, I cannot stop until I reach the final words, and then I long to begin again with her next book. Her stories come to life in the minds of her readers. I get lost in the world of fantasy and romance with no desire to leave. To highly recommend her books is an understatement.
Would you consider the audio edition of Happily Never After to be better than the print version?
I did not read the print version. However, I cannot imagine enjoying the story more than when it is read to me by the superb Tavia Gilbert.
What did you like best about this story?
Grandma Greta was pretty awesome. She has a sweet relationship with Bones, and his handmaiden (what is the male equivalent to that?) Chance. She has a colorful and somewhat sorrowful past that lead to an interesting, long life. She will stop at nothing to protect her granddaughter, and when she calls in her chits, there is hell to pay for certain over-blown mobsters. I also liked it when Isabella's loser brother shows up, and Grandma is disgusted with him, and then when he question's Isabella's sanity in believing in the undead, Grandma calmly sets him straight. Too funny.
Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?
Grandma Greta
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I loved how calm Chance was in every instance when the mobsters try to kill him. He is like, 'really?' over and over. It's pretty funny.
Any additional comments?
This is a great short story, as a spin-off from the Night Huntress series. Well developed, fun conclusion, and well worth the read.
I have gone through withdraws from the first 4 Night huntress, the first 2 Vlad and the First Drop Crimson..... Some of the later books were good but not as........ good. This book is a formula but, no one does it better and I felt happy when it was over. I probably will listen again. I would not have even bought it if Tavia Gilbert was not the performer. The couple she didn't narrate were absolute rubbish.
Grandmother Greta asked her vampire friend, Bones, help with a getting rid mafia want-a-be Robert. Robert has his sights her granddaughter, Isabelle. Her grandson, Richie is also missing.
Bones sent his vampire friend, Chance. Isabelle was always concerned for his welfare even though he continued to return after several attempts on his life.
This novella has a tongue in cheek humor. It's fun and fast moving. For fans of Jeaniene Frost, you will not be disappointed.
What did you love best about Happily Never After?

Which scene was your favorite?
The scene when the goons see Chance, a vampire still alive (unalive) after they shot him dead and toss his body in the lake with the fishes.
